Hi, December Babes...I was trying to get a basic inventory of the protein bars that you've enjoyed so that I can buy what is tasty and healthy. I have no experience with protein bars, but your info was so GOOD...hence the 8/30/07 list. The Snicker Bar info has been added to a desk-top copy. I do not have a lot of computer know-how so my DH pieced the list together on our desk-top. I do not know how to re-enter the info into the current list, but if there are more "goodies", the list can be re-posted later. He loved the list...Snickers, Kit Kat, Girl Scout Cookies, Butterfingers, etc. What's not to love?! BTW...He lost 20 # since my surgery. We plan to go "Bar Shopping" this week! I LOVE MY HUBBY! Ro

Wow, Ro...you rock! Thank you and hubbie for compiling all of this. I am going to print it and keep it in my little car file for easy reference while shopping. Today at GNC I got a few more to sample and will post my thoughts on them when I try them. Thank you again for all your hard work! Molly

JUST A THOUGHT: How hard is it to make a good tasting protein bar? Anyone up for the challenge? If so, I'd love the recipe! Ro

omg...i have admitted to my love of the protein bars and generally i put myself on restriction and cannot have them in my house....BUT i am going to Las Vegas tomorrow and like to have an alternative to having to find something on the menu to eat.( especially in the airport) So based on the first string from molly i bought some Adkins bars (Choc. Peanut Butter)......They are yummy.....not only that...they seem to give me a "full" feeling whereas the Southbeach Bars did not ......I am a real Carb watcher but this bar seems to have a lot of that in Fiber so i am assuming there are at least 10 of the 22 carbs are "good" carbs.....These are pretty high in fat as i see it compared to the above listed by Ro.......but as an occasional alternative---and as long as i can work it in to my "plan" it is golden. Now i am struggling with whether i will take my diet minder journal with me on Vacation.....i am thinking i will........so that i dont have to find a Barnes and Noble in LV to get another one..... Ro, I sent you the link but don't know if it went through or not so here is the recipe cut and pasted. They didn't list the baking time but doing mine in a glass 9 x 13 di**** took about 25 minutes to get it nice and dry looking with a light brown around the edges. The changes I made to the recipe: used my combination white grape juice/cranberry juice instead of the orange juice (didn't have any oj) and used Steel's Country Syrup (a maple-syrup type product from Bariatriceating.com), 1/4 cup flaxseed and 1 tsp. vanilla. Turned out pretty good, very dry but that is how I wanted them so they'd be portable and not mushy. I think it would be really good to add some extra cocoa powder or chopped craisins, raisins, nuts or mini sugar-free chocolate chips. You could do as Melissa suggested to Terri on the rny board and use a sugar-free coffee syrup to substitute for the maple syrup too. This was really cheap to make and VERY filling. I could only eat half of one at one time and ate the other half later. How To Make Your Own Protein Nutrition Bars From Adapted from Stella's Kitchen Looking for a good protein bar recipe? This makes a meal replacement bar at a mere fraction of the cost of packaged protein bars and none of their glycerin, preservatives, or sugar, these low-fat bars are rich in fiber and taste great with a light spread of natural peanut butter across the top. Served with a protein drink, they make a well-balanced meal. Difficulty: Easy Time Required: 20 Minutes What You Need: 3 1/2 cups quick oats 1 1/2 cups powdered non-fat milk 4 scoops low carb chocolate or vanilla protein powder 1 cup sugar-free maple syrup (Cozy Cottage, Cary's or Howard's) 2 egg whites, beaten 1/4 cup orange juice 1 teaspoon vanilla 1/4 c. natural applesauce Here's How: Preheat over to 325 and spray a baking sheet or 9x12 baking dish with non-stick spray. The 9x12 baking dish will yeild thicker bars. Mix oats, powdered milk, and protein powder in bowl and blend well. In separate bowl, combine egg whites, orange juice, applesauce, and the sugar-free syrup and blend well. Stir liquid mixture into dry ingredients until blended. The consistency will be thick and similar to cookie dough. Spread batter onto pan and bake until edges are crisp and browned. Cut into 10 bars and store in airtight container or freeze. Nutritional Information Per Bar: Calories-157,Carbs-23g,Protein-15g,Fat-.5g,Fiber-4g Tips: If you find you want a moister bar, use 1/2 cup of natural applesauce.
