Ok...I just checked my bank balance and history online and found I was in the negative. WHAT??? Here's why... 08/07/07 balance $565.58 8/7/07 check #1018 withdrawal -$542.00 8/7/07 NSF paid item #1018 -32.00 Now...correct me if I'm wrong, and my math skills ARE a bit rusty...but the last time I knew, $565.58 was MORE THAN $542.00. Am I wrong?? I mean I realize I cut it close, but still...

I wonder if there is a pending check that was waiting to clear also. I know mine gives 2 balances. Someone told me what when you use your debit they basically reserve DOUBLE what you spent till it clears. I have no idea....I would call and find out. GOOD LUCK Diana

Thanks...I'm going in there in a bit. There's nothing left that's outstanding, and the NSF fee specifies it's for that check. *sigh* Now I actually have to get dressed and leave the house today.

What probably happened was that the $565.58 was not completelty availabe. In other words, you deposited a check and it has not cleared yet. If you have a good history with the bank, they will reverse the NSF charge. Ask them....

Did you get an answer from them yet? I am very curious because all this finance stuff is like another language to me. All I know that my debit card is the second most important thing in my purse (next to my military ID card...that is sacrosanct!).

I did...they're reversing the charge, but I didn't fully understand what they were trying to tell me. She said at first the largest transaction posts first blah blah blah...and that's why. Though when I showed her the print out and how the transactions went, either way the money was there and available. Honestly I don't think she knew why it happened either, she showed her manager and manager couldn't come up with a good reason either, so they put in a reversal...which can take up to 3 days by the way. I'm beginning to think I need to put in a little extra money as a buffer from now on. Not that we have a great deal of it to do that with, but at $32 a transaction, it would be in our best interest, I think.
