? For the Sore Butt Club
Since we've already established there are many of us here with sore tailbones (Oh, us BONY things!!!) I was wondering if the group would give me some ideas on exercises for the core that don't require laying down on the floor or sitting.
The abs are looking flabbier each day, or maybe I'm just imagining it but...they need work! I can really tell when I am on the verge of being FOS because my tummy starts to pooch out a bit more. Gross! That just tells me I have to heed Melissa's advice and watch the fiber better AND get my core muscles tightened up so there can't be any pooching like that.

Ohhh we have a club now!!! YEAH! I have not found any exercies other than toning that do not bother me. My nurse did tell me yesterday that the pain may never go away depending on how much you lose and how much is left on your butt. My husband says I have not butt left so maybe this could be a long term thing for me? She did suggest Tylenol Arthritis. There was another medication that she told me that was perscription, but I forgot the name of it. Sorry I can find out if anyone is interested.
There is once exercise at the gym that I do a lot and it is great for the abs. It is just a simple machine that helps do sit up. No weights involved. It does not hurt my tailbone at all. It makes sit ups a lot easier and I certainly feel it in my abs the next day. ~ Terisa
Ooh, Terisa...yes, info please!!! Definitely the name of the rx and also the ab machine. I even embarrassed myself at work in front of my coworkers and climbed aboard the 'Ab Lounger' to see if it would work. It hurt too!
Back in my fat days I gave my favorite easy chair a hefty workout every day. It is an upholstered rocker and I used to love to rock. (have loved to rock ever since I was a baby which made me Dad's favorite...sis had to be walked ha) I rarely sit in that chair now because there just isn't any way to get comfortable in it. Am seriously looking at getting a straight-upright, wooden, JFK-style rocker to see if that would work. Sitting is better if I throw my upper body forward over my hips, have you found that to be true too?
Molly
Molly,
I will call my nurse tomorrow to get the name of the medication for you. In the meantime get some tylenol arthritis. I just took some. I am in serious pain tonight! Right now I am not finding any chair that is comfortable. The simple fact is sitting puts pressure on my tailbone and no matter how soft it still hurts.
I have not tried to get up that way. if no one is around I get up like I am 9 months pregnant!! My nurse said that this is the biggest complaint she hears. Funny, I had never heard of it until now.
There is no name for the ab machine. It is basically a flat bench that bends in the mid back area. You put your feet up on these bars and there are two bars to help you pull yourself up. Very simply, but effective machine. My biggest concern was my abs because I wanted to lose as much as possible there. I know a 6 pack is not possible, but wanted to make the best of it. I tried each ab machine in the gym and this simple one was way better than the complicated ones, and it did not hurt my butt! ~ Terisa
Thank you, Terisa! Funny how little we heard about the sore tailbone business pre-op, huh? I'm trying not to complain so much lately because I think my coworkers and family are sick of it. (I don't blame them.)
I am going to dig out my stretchy bands from the physical therapist and see if I can figure out a way to use them to create some resistance on my abs. They are designed to fit into the hinge of a door and I use them for my shoulders but there must be some way i could be bending and pull against them with my abs, don't you think?
Will definitely look for the Tylenol Arthritis tomorrow, thank you for the tip.
Molly
hehe, I forgot about the mammoth rubber bands!!! LOL
I can't think of anything off hand using those to help your abs. If i think of something I will let you know. Let me know who the tylenol arthritis works for you. It does not seem to be doing too much for me.
I am trying not to complain either, but sometimes it is hard not to!!!
Molly,
I called my nurse today and the medications you can take to help with the sore butt is Ultram or Ultracet. She said you can take one every 6 hours and there are no problems as far as driving or anything. She said just to call you pcp and ask fo a script for it. Maybe you can also call your surgeons office? I am not sure. Some of our surgeons would write a script for it and some want you to go to your pcp. I have been taking the tylenol arthritis since yesterday and have found no relief at all!! This is not funny anymore.
Terisa
Terisa you are so sweet to ask your nurse for me! Thank you!!! I will ask my pcp about it, even though I really hate going to the military clinic. Every time I set foot in the place I come out with a cold or the flu.
Tried the stretchy bands last night with it in the door behind me and bending down, didn't feel it in my abs. I think today I will try it standing on top of it and pulling it up with my arms crossed over my chest. There has to be a way to work those muscles without using the arms and without sitting on my hiney!
