Hi Everyone... hope everyone had a good weekend. Mine was shall we say.. not so good. I was at work last night and started having HORRIFIC upper quadrant (left and right side) abdominal pain to the point I was nauseated and clammy, gonna black out stuff. Yes, I am a bad nurse didn't say much, started around 330 this morning, my shift ends at 630 and I had seven patients I was taking care of so I didn't feel I could just leave them. I finished my shift out.. totally doubled over in tears.. my friend from another unit drove me to the ER this morning. They did labs and a CT scan of my abdomen and found that I FOS.. this is a unofficial medical term for "Full Of ****". I have been taking treatment after treatment today and this is the first time today I am finally feeling up to being on OH. Not sleeping last night or much yesterday and today.. well I am just exhuasted. I can tell there is more to come.. its endless. This is with me drinking 100oz of water a day and taking a daily stool softener. I was having regular bowel movements too just not "big" ones.. well lesson learned here.. I gotta start getting more fruit or something in my diet... This high protein diet is just killing me bowels. I also run everyday so ya wouldn't think this would be such a problem for me.. but it is for most RNY'ers and looks like it will be for me now too. Ok enough about me. I am just now sipping on some chicken broth.. not even gonna think about eating. I might have a SF popsickle later.. ugh. Tomorrow will be a soft diet I am sure of cottage cheese and SF puddings/jello, etc. Thanks for listening to me whine.. I wouldn't wish that kind of pain on my worst enemy. What did you eat today?

Melissa, I am so sorry you are not feeling well. Sounds like a rough night. No one likes the "FOS" diagnosis. I hope you feel better tomorrow and are able to eat something. I did quite well on eating today especially compared to my usual. B: Protein drink w/half banana L: yorgurt D: small baked chicken stuffed w/ asparagus and lowfat cheese I know I still have some work to do, but my bp was A LOT better today. It was 100/55. That is the best it has been in a few days! I think the protein drink for breakfast was a big help to keeping my bp closer to normal. I will try that for a few days and see how it works for me. Get some rest Melissa and feel better!!

Poor Melissa, owie owie!!! Hope that you will be feeling more like your old self soon. You are certainly a dedicated professional to endure as much pain as you did and yet finish out your shift. So you are going to have to add more fruit or veg to your diet? Will you also have to add a fiber additive in addition? You can see from my past entries that I get too many carbs from fruit in the last few months but I still take my fiber supplement (Benefiber) twice a day. Like you said, the effects of these high protein diets are something most RNY'ers have to worry about so it would be interesting to hear what you are counselled to do with your diet. I know we all get told different things from our surgeons and nut's. Well, I tried to watch it today so tomorrow would be a good weigh-in. The little loss I had over the weekend crept back so I want it gone again. 1) frosty protein shake 2) 2 cottage cheese pancakes, 1 T sf Steel's syrup 3) 3 oz. grilled mahi mahi with 2 T. light ranch dressing, 1/2 cup marinated cuke and a sf. snack pack pudding (BIG lunch!) 4) 2 turkey/cheese rollups, 1/2 c. 0% fage with 1 T sf jam 5) maybe a sf frozen fruit pop Feel better soon, Melissa! HUGS!!! Molly

Anita, how many calories are in the special K protein plus? And what kind of ingredients is it? I've never seen it before and am just curious how it compares to the kashi go lean. Someone in another post said it has 10 gr. prot. which is a little less than the kashi but I'm always looking for lower calories. Molly

I'm wondering if that's not what my problem is. I've been having the "little" ones too, and having what I call "mystery pain". I feel bloated and yucky and not able to eat the full quantity I normally do. I just attributed it to the pregnancy. If it's not too much trouble, would you share your remedy with me?? Can be done privately of course. Hope you're feeling much better today!!
