How long do ya'll stop drinking before a meal and start after? Do any of you "water load" before a meal?

I know they recommend water loading, I have read how to do it many times but I get really uncomfortable with more than a couple swallows in a row, lots of pressure, so not sure how I would do this. Right now I do 30 mins before no drinking and 1 hour after.. my preference (keeps me fuller longer) doc only recommends 30/30 though. But he was happy when I told him I am waiting an hour as I like that feeling of "fullness" for a while. I have no desire to ever drink with my meals again, it was such a struggle in the beginning its amazing how we create good habits isn't it? Let me know if you do this water loading thing, I wanna see how its done and what people think!!! Also in that rules for the pouch thing it says to eat within 15 mins do you do that? I get fuller if I go slower but I know that I tend to eat too fast, I am really working on that. But then I read that and I think, well I am doing it right, who knows!!!

I have been really bad about the not drinking during a meal as well as the stopping before and waiting after. However, I decided today that I was going to do it and that is that. So I water loaded(5 24 oz bottles in 1 1/2 hours) before lucnh and stopped drinking about 15 minutes before. It has now been 45 minutes since I finished eating and I still feel pretty full. I'm going to wait for an hour to drink something. I'll let you know how the experiment turns out

Amy, I started water loading off and on about a month ago. It works best for me at work or if I can really concentrate on the timing while I am at home. Usually at home I am too busy doing too many things at once for it to work well. Unfortunately I was not one of the lucky ones who had hunger disappear, mine came back right after surgery so liquids have been a help with my hunger from the beginning post-op days. Just in smaller amounts back then... I still do NOT drink with meals and wait half an hour to an hour before drinking after a meal. The longer I wait, the longer it is until I get hungry again. Molly

I usually stop drinking about 30 mins before a meal because I eat out a lot, so I usually have time driving there and deciding what I am going to eat and ordering so that time goes by fast. I still wait 30 mins before I start drinking again and that works for me. I am having a little hunger come back, not ravishing though but if I have not eaten in awhile, I start to feel a little rumble. Sometimes its hard to wait the 30 mins to drink but I know why its important so I just make it happen. It really is the best thing, because I dont want to push my food thru. and I really cant imagine eating and drinking at the same time. Also, I am still a big crybaby when it comes to gas, so I refuse anything carbonated and refuse to drink from a straw. I also chewed a piece of gum one day and it was horrible with all the air. so I wont do that again. This is a good thread. we should really keep up topics like this that relate to our stage in this game so that we can compare stories. Angela

Hey ya'll! OK, so - water loading is drinking 5 bottles of water in an hour and a half ??? Wow - I don't think I could keep it down - I think it would just bubble right back up ; ) Where did ya'll hear about this? What is the purpose? As to eating and drinking - I usually do a 30/30 thing, but I have found myself grabbing my water bottle 15/20 minutes afterwards. I really struggled with dehydration post-op (my resting heart rate was over 100 and it would do little flip-flops) so my doctor has been a little lenient about the timing. I still have trouble with keeping myself hydrated, actually. So, I tend to be thirsty more than anything else. Also, I wouldn't say I get hungry anymore - I just have mental cravings for food. Sometimes I get the hiccups if I don't eat for a while.
