6 Months!
Hi Everyone!
Well it has been 6 months now since my surgery. Seems like many of us are coming up on this milestone if we haven't already. I have lost 90 pounds since the day of surgery, 106.5 with the 2 week clear liquid/preop diet and 138 total with some that I lost even before my preop diet. I feel amazing. I am at 190 now, want to get to 140, I hope I can do it. My doc's goal is 150-160 which I would imagine would be ok too, but I am only 5'5" and that is really a stretch I am more like 5'4 and 1/2". I am in a size 14 stretch capris now and XL shirts. It feels really good. I actually don't have too much "wrinkly" skin but I do have some flabby jiggle in the abdomen and some decent batwings. I am hoping my exercising, lots of water, moisturizing and light weight lifting will help some but I know if skin is stretched there isn't much we can do about it. I think my hairloss is slowing down some, so I am happy about that. I can easily eat my protein requirements in food now. I get in between 70-85 grams a day and usually around 850-900 calories. A meal consists of 4 oz of meat usually with some very sof****ery veggies like squash or zuchinni. Or I can eat a small whole grain 6"/high fiber wrap with 3-4 oz of meat/cheese in it with some lettuce. This sound about what you guys are eating? I usually eat 3 meals and a snack, sometimes that snack is just a decaff coffee with some milk and sf syrup in it. Low cal and hits the sweet tooth well. I lost 16 pounds last month, a remarkable month for me. All I did was change BC methods, eat all my protein in food not shakes and up my water. So its interesting.. I think I might of had some extra fluid on board with that BC pill I was on, I am now on the Nuvaring and love it. How is everyone else doing? ~Melissa
Yo Melissa:
Just had my 6 month checkup yesterday...labs are great, right in the mid range.
I am still -10 grams on protein from goal, so I am going to kick it up a notch with a protein shake after I work out.
One thing my clinic did say was that in setting a goal weight, it's important to have a water/fat analysis done on your body, because going by the BMI chart, we might be trying to get to a weight that is actually not possible for our body type, or that we would really have to struggle to maintain. They also said most folks land in a range of 7 lbs where their body will naturally want to remain.
I am not really setting a goal yet....neither is my clinic, they want to wait until the next visit. I am thinking of 160, but we shall see.
Anyway, congrats, and happy 6 months!

Hi Megan! Way to go on the great 6 month checkup, that has to make you feel awesome! You are doing GREAT with your weight loss.. I think I have already told ya that before though! How many cals a day are you consuming? I am right at 800-1000 and I get all my proteins in no problem. I also exercise everyday that I can but it usually ends up being 4-5 days a week.
That was interesting when you mentioned the water/fat analysis. I bet my doc doesn't have anything like that to do that sort of thing, i will have to ask. I have also heard of a this machine you can blow in that determines how fast of a metabolism you have, that this can make a difference too. Hmm..
Well I am glad things are going well, it is good to hear from ya on here. Keep up the great work and keep us posted on your progress!
