grazing and I feel like a cow
I'm with Melissa.. try to stick to more dense foods. If you're gonna snack, go for beef jerky, some deli meats, or tuna/chicken salad, that will create some fullness in the pouch for a bit.
My surgeon had us off of all supplements ASAP, and I've found even at 6 months out, I'm not much on snacking. Most days, I have to remember to have a snack, because I tend to eat mostly meats for my meals. Usually my day goes like this (currently):
B: Cottage Cheese crepe (pancake recipe, but rolled around 1tsp SF preserves instead), 2oz of Farmer John's ham (little breakfast ham slices sold individually, 1 will last me several days)
Another favorite: sliced tomatoes, cheddar cheese slice, wrapped in 3 slices of deli meat of choice.
S: If I have room.. 8 oz of milk or a yogurt
L: 3-4 oz of tuna salad, grilled chicken, South Beach Diet (no pasta one) or Smart Ones The Truth about Carbs entree (again, just meat and veggies).. something along those lines
S: 2 oz beef jerky, or handful of dry roasted peanuts (if I'm hungry, which I'm seldom am)
D: 4oz of lean meat, and 2 oz of fruit or veggie
If I'm just having a crap day for protein count, I will put some protein powder either in my milk (chocolate) or in my yogurt (vanilla).
Now this isn't saying I don't occasionally (probably 2-3 times a week) allow myself a small treat. Either I get 1-2 slices of toast (never 2 at the same time.. LOL) with peanut butter and SF preserves on it, or 100 Calorie Hostess cupcake pack, handful of my hubby's popcorn (you can lose a limb trying to do that, by the way.. shee****'s not like I don't feed him!), or 2 pieces of Dove SF dark chocolate w/ raspberry creme center.
For day to day fits of wanting to snack, I curb that with SF Werther's Originals, SF LifeSavers Mints, or Baskin Robbins SF Mint Chocolate Chip candies. Can pop 4-5 of those over the day, and they are only 40 calories (for all 5 pieces). Since I'm still low on my calorie count each day (most the times having a hard time reaching 800 because of all the lean protein I eat), I don't sweat the occasional treat.
Beef jerky and mozzarella sticks are still my favorite "snack" though.
What a great topic. Thanks everyone for their advice on what to do. I like you had my surgery on December 20th and in the last month have hit a stall. It is very frustrating. I have also found myself grazing rather than eating proper meals. I am going to take some of the advice that people have given!!
Thanks so much!
Nancy
