Exercise
I am just wondering what everyone does for exercise. I do 5x a week at the gym on the treadmill everyday and weights 3x a week. I also walk outside when it is nice (I am not sure when that is going to come back either.)
I am just wondering what other people do. I feel like I need to up my exercise routine.
Thanks for you help!
Nancy
Hi Nancy!
I do the treadmill 4-5 times a week. I do a half hour mostly jogging at 3.7-3.8mph then I will do maybe 2 recovery walks during that time lasting 3 minutes at 3.3 mph. I work as a floor nurse twice a week on the weekends and those days I do not work out. I work overnights sat and sundays so I sometimes skip my workout on Monday b/c I am tired. I haven't started lifting weights yet, I probably need to, I bought some 5 pounds, not very heavy. I also take my dog for walks when it is nice, too chilly here now. I also find that if I drink a protein shake after I work out that it sometimes helps with the weight loss stalls. I have heard that our body will utilize it best after a workout. Hope this helps!
Wow, Nancy! That is really inspiring. It doesn't sound like you need to up your routine just alter it a little bit. I used to work with a real fitness fanatic and she always told me I had to change the exercises I do because you have to keep your body working differently so you burn calories more efficiently. Now, she's not educated on the subject just very interested so maybe you'd better ask someone at your gym if that is true or not.
Personally, I have gym phobia but don't worry too much about it because I have a highly physical job 5 days a week that involves a lot of speed walking, lifting heavy boxes, climbing ladders and stairs. I am always very tired when I get home and don't exercise on days when I work more than 4 hours. On the weekends and short days I alternate between using my home stair-stepper and doing a Pilates dvd for core muscles. Here in Spokane we have a very big annual road race/walk called Bloomsday the first Sunday in May. It has been 16 years since I've been physically able even to train for it and plan to do it this year. For me to walk it, it will take about 2 1/2 hours and my walking training now is only up to 45 minutes so I had better get started increasing the time and fast.
Keep up all your great work!!!
Molly
I had a gym phobia too.... I think I am almost over it. I just go to the gym, do my thing, and leave. I heard Pilates were suppose to be really good for your inner core. I have never done them but I am going to try and find someplace that offers classes in them.
Good luck on the Bloomsday race! My goal is the marathon we have here in June (not this June but June of 2008!!)
