Weight Loss GREAT, feeling nauseous
As of this morning, I've lost 56 lbs. since my Dec. 15th surgery and I'm very happy with my progress! However, for the past couple of weeks I've had trouble finding anything good to eat! Things that sound good - when I try them they make me feel like throwing up! I don't mean bad-for-me things, either. It seems like nothing really tastes GOOD. I used to be so addicted to sweets and now just the thought of something sweet makes me sick. I'm having trouble with all the protein drinks tasting too sweet. I'm also having trouble with smells (like bacon frying) making me sick. I do have a couple of pretty big kidney stones right now - could those be making me sick? I go for my 3-mth. checkup on March 15th and I'm really trying to make it until then without bothering my doctor or the nutritionist, so any ideas will be greatly appreciated!! Hope everyone has a great weekend!
I've been going through the same thing. certain smells make me want to
it has been strange lately, one minute I can eat something, next day I get nauseated. especially cheese! i had broccoli and cheese soup at Applebees and after 5 spoons I was throwing up and sick for the rest of the day! just thinking about it makes me shiver! I use peppermint to get the smell/nausea under control--SF breathmint sprays work for me.
i think maybe our body is trying to tell us something? i trust my body and just stay away from the foods that cause this reaction
i have tried the "lean cusine" meals, and wendy's chilly. they are my friends. i really just eat now to survive--all my favorite foods are no more ...and I do miss them sometimes! BUT, i'm glad that the "even if I tried I couldn't eat it" mechanism is working!
i hope things will improve for you.

Patti,
That's so awesome that you've lost 56lbs. I've lost 71 but the last 10+ or so pounds were the very hard way. I've developed a food aversion and have had a problem gagging and dry heaving.
I am very easily nauseated and from there - the gagging kicks in. I've gotten to where I can't open the fridge or the pantry. Sometimes just a picture of food will set it off. I ignored this building problem... because it has gradually gotten worse.
Keep an eye on things and talk to your doctor if it escalates. I go see a therapist tomorrow to help.
Take care,
Leeann
Hey Patti,
I know the feeling - I have lost 54 pounds since my surgery on December 29th. However, I developed an ucler at the stoma from my pouch to my intestines. I have been hospitalized twice for it but it is finally healing. I have had my gallbladder checked by a hida scan and it is working great. But I still have problems eating. Nothing sounds good, and like you, one day I can eat something and the next time it makes me nauseated. Last night I went to a support meeting at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah Kentucky where I had my surgery. The nutritionist said that it will get better as time goes on and be patient. Some of the patients there said it was anywhere from 3-6 months before this type of problem settled down for them. So - hang in there - it will get better. Just be sure to get your protein in, take your vitamins and be sure to get your fluids down. If we will just make it through this rough patch, we will be able to eat the healthy foods without the nausea!!!
