Saw the surgeon on Thursday, and I'm doing pretty well overall. I've lost a total of 62 pounds, and I'm feeling pretty good. However, I still am on only liquids for the most part. About anything more solid than yogurt or pudding comes back up. I thought perhaps I was just eating too fast, and he says we will keep an eye on things. THen he asked me if I had tried any sugar yet (which I hadn't) he was wondering if I "dumped." Well about 3 hours ago I tried some sugar....I ate a dilly bar, not the sugar free kind. 21 g. of sugar it said on the label. And nothing, no dumping, nothing at all. What can this mean, does anyone know?
We do not all dump on sugar. I know of many peeps who can eat sugar with no issues at all. We are all so different it is odd. Pay close attention to how much you are chewing and your bite size. I used small infant spoons and forks for a few weeks to limit my bite size. Also are you keeping away from liquids during/after eating for your allotted time?. Hope things get better for you.

Sharon, are you on liquids still because of his orders or just because of the vomiting? I am surprised that your surgeon didn't order an EGD to see if you have a stricture. Are you supposed to be advancing your diet to more solid foods now? By my surgeon's program I should be out of the soft food stage now and advancing back into a regular bariatric diet but I'm a bit behind because of stricture issues. Am just now doing fine with soft foods and try to have a new food every day to see how it goes.
Don't fret about not dumping, a lot of people don't dump at all and some people never dump on the same thing twice. Maybe the next time you try that food it could make you terribly sick, don't risk it. Also, some people here report dumping on greasy/fatty foods too. You never know. I have only dumped once (haven't tried any sugar just to be safe) and it was on a piece of sugar free Valentine's candy. Go figure...
62 pounds gone is awesome! Glad that you are feeling well but do keep on top of that eating problem, you don't want to let it go too long.

you aren't the only who doesn't have trouble with sugar... I was able to eat 2 girl scout cookies the other day... and while if I eat larger amounts of sugar, I will feel a little warm and sick... I can eat enough cookies or whatever to fill my pouch and not get sick... I've never 'dumped' and that kinda scares me!! I still have to exercise willpower to get my weight off and I have to make myself make better choices when I get hungry... I try to put snacks and sweets away and limit myself... everyone is SO different on this surgery... sometimes I'm glad I can still enjoy sweets and other days I wish even the tiniest bit would make me sick so I'd have more incentive to stay away from them!
