So i had rny on 12/18/06 and I've lost about 38 lbs. Right now I've been stuck at about 250 for the past 3 weeks. I've already had a stricture two weeks ago and i wonder if I have another one. I'm not really getting my liquids/protein in. I have no idea what to do. I'm not eating much as I don't know what to eat. Don't know what food I can eat w/ protein in it. I tried some chicken..um yeah..that didn't work...anyone have any words for me??

Morning Natalie, Depending on your surgeon's guidelines, you should be able to eat lots of stuff about now. But if you're having a hard time swallowing, I could see where that would be a problem. Some suggestions for protein would be: If you can tolerate dairy (i.e. aren't lactose intolerant) Lowfat cottage cheese (chew it well, and get the small curd kind if you can) Riccotta cheese (can puree it with strawberries, banana, etc.. and a little Splenda) Chicken and Beef broth.. both have protein in them and are liquids Non-fat or 1% milk.. has about 8g of protein per 8oz Plain non-fat yogurt (and/or then add protein powder) 1 egg = 7g of protein (if you can handled poached or soft scrambled) Lowfat mozzarella string cheese = 7g of protein I like the whey protein powder (Body Fortress, I believe) from Wal-Mart, it's relatively inexpensive (about $12) and comes in vanilla and chocolate flavor. It mixes well in the yogurt, and gives about 28g of protein for a serving mixed with yogurt.. mix it in milk (for chocolate milk.. make sure to use a blender) and it's 31g of protein. Isopure from Vitamin Shoppe or Gen C Nutritional Centers is also mentioned as a good source of protein. I hope that helps some.

i discovered that smoked salmon goes down well when chicken or even regular grilled salmon will not. 4 oz only contain about 160 calories but something like 30g of protein.

Sorry to hear you are battling a stall and a stricture. Didn't they tell you that you'd possibly need to have it dilated multiple times? Mine developed early and has been stretched twice already and I go in again on Tuesday for a third treatment. As it closes up again I just go back to thinner and thinner puree. I still have not graduated to my surgeon's soft food list. Be sure to keep using a protein supplement if you can stand it. If whey bothers you, try a spirulina supplement. Can you get down babyfood meats? I'm still doing ok with those, especially since I add a little bbq or other type sauce to give it flavor and makes it runnier. Also good is fat-free ricotta with some low-sugar marinara added. Tastes like lasagne and the marinara makes it thinner. For your stall...try bumping up your exercise level. When I returned to work this week it promptly ended my last stall and in one week I lost 7 pounds. Keep away from chicken for awhile, my doctor's nurse said that it has the kind of protein strands that make it bind to itself even when chopped or well-chewed. She said that she was only able to tolerate it at 3 *YEARS* out. That seems rather extreme, but you know things affect all of us differently. Feel better soon, Molly

I had mine on 12/18 as well and I am down 35 pounds, which has been fluctuating from 33-35 for the past week. Feels like I will never get past the 35 mark! I have not had any strictures and I am sorry to hear that you have been having troubles. Are you drinking any protein drinks?

I can only eat boneless, skinless chicken thighs cooked in the crockpot. Chicken breast is just too dense for me. I need everything saucy!!! I put thighs in the crock pot with Pace Piquante sauce and let them cook overnight and I just love them. Also, put them in with garlic, S & P, a little water and then add some dry chicken gravy mix when it is all done. Those seem good to me too. Are you noticing a trend, I need wet chicken!! Try to keep drinking, water if nothing else. You don't want to get dehydrated. Hugs, prayers and love, Lana
