NOT FEELING WELL/ EGD MONDAY 01/22/06 !!!!
HEY, PEOPLE
I'm 4 weeks out and I have had vomiting and nausea and just plain not feeling well since I came home from the hospital. My DR. think that I may have some scar tissue which may be causing a blockage and making me not feel well. I'm on soft foods now but still can't eat much and I alway feel like cramp. Any advice and have any one had a EGD done. How was it ? Did they fine a blockage? And did you feel better afterward?
I just had an EGD done last weekend. It took about 15 minutes and I remember nothing about it. It did not hurt and I could not tell I had had it done afterwards. I myself did not have a blockage but they found ulcers instead. It wa nice to know that I did not have to have the opening stretched. Good luck

Sorry to hear you are having trouble. I had the same kinds of problems beginning at 3 weeks post-op. Vomiting and feeling like food was stuck when I knew it couldn't be and then a few days later even water wouldn't go down. Turns out I did have a stricture and also ulcers on my anastamosis. This was my 3rd EGD (two previous had just been for stomach pain from my previous WLS). They repeated the procedure last Monday because you can't have that stretched out the full way the first time or you risk rupturing. Now I am dilated to 10mm and go back again on the 29th for a checkup. Hopefully they won't have to do it again.
Getting it done is no biggie. The worst of the problem for me was getting the IV line started for the sedation drugs. I am a very bad 'stick' and they always have to poke me at least 3 times and bruise me all up. But once the IV is going, you get your sedation and never remember the procedure. They'll spray the back of your throat to paralyze the muscles temporarily so they can pass the camera and balloon instrument down there to see what they are doing and stretch out the stricture. The worst you may have is a slight sore throat afterwards. Of four EGD's I've had done I've only ever had a sore throat once.
After the procedure you'll be able to comfortably eat and drink again but they may want you back on liquids for a short time after your procedure. They are treating my ulcers (I still have them) with Prevacid and Carafate. Really helps the pain a lot.
Feel better soon!

I had my RNY in December of 2005. I also had lots of trouble with nausea and not being able to eat at about 3-4 weeks out. I had CT scans and then an EGD. I ended up having an ulcer which was treated and the doctor said I would have to take medicine for it forever. But the EGD is nothing to fear. They sedate you and you have no memory of it. You'll be fine with it -- just try to relax. I hope it goes well for you and that they find something that will make you feel better. I remember it was a miserable time. Good luck to you.
Hi. I'm having a problem with getting foods down too. I had a hietal hernia removed and the wls on 12/8. I have mucus reflux after I eat. Not every time but about every 2-3 days. It feels like it's stuck and I have a gas pain in my chest. I went to the doc. two days ago and I'm going for the EGD and balloon next week. I had a EGD before surjury because of acid reflux and it wasn't to it. But i'm not sure about the balloon. Good Luck. My prayers are with you.
