So nauseated and can't drink enough

This is my first time to post anything. My surgery was on Dec. 26th. Have had so much nausea and can't seem to drink enough water to stay hydrated. Is this forever! What did I do?

It's definitely not forever. but you may want to call your surgeon or nutritionist for their opinion. In the meantime keep sipping peppermint tea worked for me when I first had surgery. I still drink it now hot or cold it really helped settle my stomach and it is refreshing..

Ginger is also good for nausea, I've seen a ginger tea in a grocery store. How about sugar free popsicles? My doctor's nurse said she lived on those the first few weeks when she was nauseated. Hope you feel better soon. Molly

ohh it goes away..I think I'm just waiting for it to completely go away. I took a lot of my nausea medicine that the doc gave me. Now when I get nauseated,I try to just lie down. It doesn't happen very much anymore. I'm almost 5 weeks out now. I'm waiting for it to get better or should I say..GONE!

My surgery was on the 26th as well. I had that for the first week, but after that I seemed to be okay. I would say you might want to contact the doctor too. The only thing that helped me from the nausea was to make sure that I drank slowly, and sometimes Hot decaf tea would help. Good Luck. Please take care of yourself. Beth

Please keep your surgeon informed. I had my surgery in December of 2005 and had the same problems with nausea and not being able to eat. I ended up having an EGD (a scope) and they found I had an ulcer. My advice is to try to keep hydrated and let the doctor's office know if you're not better soon. If there is something like an ulcer or a stricture causing this, you need to find out. Good luck.
