Ok, I feel like I have hit a major wall . I am 11 days out and feel so uggggghhhhhhh. I try to gagg down my protein drink and have not done that very well. I get most of my vit's in but usually miss my last tab. Don't get me started on water.... It hurts when I dring cold water but I do not like warm water. I am feeling the "why did I do this" depression and can not shake it. I wanna know if ya'all have hit this wall too? Do you guys get in all of your protein daily? What are you eating to get the protein in? Ok, I wont be so glummmm next post, Thanks for the ears...or eyes Sabrina

Sabrina: Well, you're newer to post op land than me, but I know that when I could move off of my liquid diet to work in dairy (reduced fat cheese squares, cottage cheese, tofu, Egg Beaters, I can't tolerate regular eggs yet), a whole new world opened up to me. I know as new post ops we're supposed to max out on protein shakes, but now skim milk makes me gag, it's so rich (I used to be a loyal 1% drinker)! So, I suck down one Matrix chocolate shake per day (23 g protein) and take my vitamins as ordered, and try to get in protein with the aforementioned protein sources. It sounds so trite, but HANG IN THERE....it gets better when you graduate to the next level of food, and the head hunger usually goes away by then too (it did for me). As far as water goes, I just pinch my arm, and slurp it down, there's no way around it....although I will say that filtered water bought from the store tastes better at room temp than regular tap water does. HANG IN THERE!!!!! Best, Megan

Sabrina, I still have trouble getting all my water in. I am still working on getting all my protein in. I haven't had a problem with cold water. I too went through the "what did I do to myself" stage. I also found myself feeling much better when I started my pureed foods. When do you get to start pureed foods? Good luck with everything. Any time you need to vent, cry or just blab........we are here for you. Corinn

Hi Sabrina! I am still struggling with all the water and protein at 3 weeks.. I bought some Crystal light and that has helped, tastes better to me even if it is room temp. I still want to drink it. What about SF hot chocolate, I bought a low carb kind and it was really good - I have been making it with milk for extra protein. I am impressed that you are already taking and tolerating your vitamins - I didnt start until day 14. I wish that you were closer and we could to take a walk together! (But MI is a long hike!) Staying positive right now is hard, and that sucks - hopefully you have tried on some pre-surgery clothing and felt it get bigger - that may be a pleasant surprise! Know that you have us when you feel sad, glum, or happy.. or anything in between... anytime. Rebecca

Thank you all for your support. The thing is.. I am on pureed already. I go to moist solids next Friday. I thought moving to puree would be sooo much better but I get grossed out on something right after I eat it. I am feeling odd today, I hurt EXTREMLY bad when I drink water. I have tried cold and warm but they both hurt my pouch, it drops me every time. I have gotten in maybe 4 oz water all day. I think I am just having a bad day. I do appreciate your responses though. It is nice to have peeps who actually know what i am going through to talk to. Thanks Sabrina

Sabrina, sorry to hear you are in the middle of the bad time right now. I developed lactose intolerance after surgery and couldn't do the protein drinks till this week. Dr.'s nut. said that in the first few weeks there is virtually no way you can really get in all your protien so don't beat yourself up over it. With time, it gets easier and then when you are able to get more protien in you really do feel better. Your pouch may never like cold water, my Dr.'s bariatric coordinator is about 4 years out from her surgery and she still can't do cold water. Try to be kind to yourself. Your body and head are going through a LOT right now and you know if it was a friend of yours feeling the same way you'd have a lot of comforting things to say, try remembering to say those things to yourself. You have to deal with the effects of anesthesia, the drastic reduction in your diet and fluid levels. I've read that the body doesn't really start suffering from protien loss till around 4 weeks and by then you'll be able to get in much more than you can now. If your depression doesn't lift, by all means come here to vent and try to get to a therapist or someone you can speak to locally for help. I went back to my Prozac and am so glad, it really helped with my mood. Don't worry about being glum here, we are all here to help each other when we have trouble. Vent whenever you need! Molly

Hi Sabrina! I know what you mean about the "why did I do this" feeling!!!!! My husband and I went shopping at a local outlet store yesterday and, even thought I bought clothes in a smaller size, I still was so depressed! My best advice? 1. Surround yourself with positive people that you can count on to understand you, or at least just listen. 2. Don't expect the feeling to just go away; you just put your body through a huuuuuge change. You can't expect your poor hormones to go back to normal! I'm almost two weeks post-op, and STILL having my mother-in-law (a nurse) coaching me through this. You can do it! - Krystal P.S. - For protein supplements, check-out www.protica.com, or www.bariatriceating.com

Sabrina- Sweetie..I still get frustrated too! I'll be a month out this Wed. I still at times wondering if it's worth it and of course my husband reminds me of all the reasons why I still can't get all my protein in or all my supplements. I try and try. I was on liquids for two weeks and it nearly killed me!! Thankfully I'm on the pureed now and it gets better. I've been trying to pick the higher protein things and just chew the heck out of i****er for me took a while to drink it hot or cold. It had to be room temp. Before surgery everything had to have ice..even my milk! I have fallen in love with the crystal light packets that you put in your water bottle. mmmm I don't care for the bottles already mixed. I've bought several flavors and the propel packets too. Now the kids have raided them Which I don't mind it's healthy right!! Anyway, I hope things get better and please try the flavored water..you can always vent to me! I'm a great listener

I had surgery 12/5 and I felt like you do at 11 days out! My doc and nut said not to worry about protein during the first 2 weeks, to focus on getting in enough water so as not to dehydrate. I lived on popsicles! They were the only thing I really liked. Those and peach flavored jello (tasted like a jolly rancher). When I went for my first post-op visit, then we started discussing how to make sure I get enough protein. And incidentally, I LOVED water pre-op, now I'm having a very hard time getting enough in! This will pass... one day at a time! Carol D.

Sabrina, Concentrate on not dehydrating. It will get better, I promise! I haven't met any body that doesn't wonder "What the heck have I done?!" during that first month. Sipping may help with the swallowing pain. Don't try to drink a big swallow. Oh, the pain! It's like a big ole gas bubble. One day at a time and it does get better... Take care! dawn
