Hy all, I am 6 days out and started the pureed part today. I am having a hard time getting my water in, I hope that will come in time. My question is, How long does it take to drink the 8 oz of milk or protein shake daily. Also, I am having a hard time figuring out if I am hungry or not too. How long should I wait after intaking 2 oz of food until I eat again. Man I feel like a mess. Any help would be very appreciated. Sabrina

Hi Sabrina, I didn't get to start pureed until my 2 week post op check up. I am just eating 3 meals a day. Because of my schedule I eat a scrambled egg at 6 am. Then I drink water from 7-11. At noon I will eat something for lunch. Then start drinking water again abouit 1pm-4. Then I will get in a protein shake at 4:30p. I have dinner at 6p and start drinking water again at 8 till I go to bed. I still don't get all my water in and I need to do 2 protein shakes a day to get my protein up to 100g. That is the amount my dr says I should get in. I feel full all the time now. Sometimes it is an uncomfortable feeling. Also my dr says it should take an hour to drink 8oz. Unfortunately it takes me longer. I think in time we will be able to get in everything we need. Hang in there. Take it slow and easy. I hope this helps. Remember every dr asks something different from thier patients. Corinn

Thanks, I asked my Dr. today and they said it should take about 20 minutes. I am thinking that may be too short to get 8 freakin oz's in. I can barely get in 2 oz in an hour. It will come in time. Good luck Sabrina

I am 8 days post op and had my first appointment today. We had a support group meeting then and they said that it is okay to drink a mouth full at a time if you can. Don't get me wrong, I can't gulp but I don't sip either. It takes me about 10-15 minutes to dring an 11oz can quicker if it's hot like cocoa. I can tell I'm full. I had wendy's chili today with cheese melted in it and sour cream. I ate 1/2 in about 20 minutes, maybe quicker. I started on soft and pureed today and will have solids in another week.

Hiya Sabrina- I'm about 3 1/2 weeks out. I'm still having a hard time getting in all my water and supplements in. My doc says not to rush and eventually I'll get it all in. I'm supposed to drink at least 4oz/hr Sometimes I can drink more and sometimes less. I try to eat 3 times a day and drink the rest and fit protein shakes in when I can..sometimes it's only one though. Try to put yourself on a schedule space it out like previous post. I eat applesauce for breakfast around 9or 10ish and lunch is 2ish and dinner 6-7ish. Sometimes the day goes by and I'm like ohhh no I haven't eaten since this morning. so, just try to do a schedule I'm not sure I know when I'm full yet either..so I just measure the two oz's. Good luck..hope some of this helpts.

Hi, Congratulations to you!! I did the liquid diet for 10 days but my liquid consisted of cream soups, broth, jello, protein shakes, anything that could fit thru a straw (even though straws are ) I had to get creative for that phase. Even while on that stage, I was quite swollen so it would take me a loooonnng time to drink my protein drink. What I had to do is make sure that I was only using 8 oz of water and not trying to fill up the jug that I was using to make my shake in. That helped me to get that down and then I could start with my water after that. At your stage and even at the stage I am in (soft solids --1 month out on Monday), it takes a long time to even drink water, I dont want to gulp it. you should wait 30 mins after you eat before drinking again and you must stop drinking 30 mins before you eat. You probably wont be able to figure if you are hungry until you are about 2-3 months out and even then,, you want to make sure you are truly hungry and not just head hunger. Don't feel like a mess, we are all in this together. My best friend had WLS in May of this year so she is my "expert", I share things with her and ask her a million questions. We are both going thru a learning process, she is still learning as well but we go to lunch together and can share portions and keep each other aligned. I have to do a real good job of figuring out how much to eat because I am not hungry and although I feel some tightness when I am full, I dont get the "regular" signal that I am full and dont want to get a bad signal like throwing up so I tend to err on the smaller side of portions. We will get this together and will be "experts", just give us a few months. Good luck to you. Angela
