Newbie post op water/protein/vitamin/pain questions
Happy 2007 fellow Newbies! We are going to have a great year!
Megan, I love your questions - you always ask the ones that are one my mind too - thank you!
1. Water - I think I am up to about 48 oz. but I just dont feel like this is enough. My skin is dry and I think this means I am not getting enough water.
2. Protein - My NUT said start with goal of 40gr. per day and work up to goal (80gr. day based on my height) by 6 wks. Not sure if 80 gr. is high? I just read a post on the main board of someone who was told to get 100gr. per day - that seems like alot! I did purchase some of the Designer Whey that Jacob mentioned above, the unflavored kind and I have been adding it to soups, cant taste it at all. Might thicken them up some.
3. I started vitamins on day 7. My NUT said do not get childrens vitamins and not to take tums because it is the wrong calcium type and wont be absorbed. I purchased vit powder like stuff that you mix with 2 oz. of water 1 X per day, tastes pretty good too. The same for the b-vits too. I also purchased chewable calcium tablets from GNC heath store, taste like cherry, 2X per day, they are the diameter of a water bottle top.
4. Lower left pain - Yes, I have it, not the incision but seems to be behind it. Sometimes up or down or or the side of it. I think I was doing too much bending, lifting, twisting and the other day it was quite bad when I moved in certain positions or put my arm up. Took some pain medicine .. and a nap... and it went away. Needless to say, I stopped the BLT (bending etc). I did see my Doctor Friday and he said the pain is normal and will probably continue for a few weeks on that side because that is the incision through which most instruments were passed and the only incision of mine that was stitched up. Anyway... I still kind of feel it on that side, just sore really and I can feel it too when I bend down or twist at all.
Talk to you soon! Happy New YEar! Rebecca
