Can't sleep on back any longer!
Rebecca,
I am a stomach sleeper all of my life. Having the surgery and sleeping on my back the first night was horriable. On the second night, I asked the nurse if there was a reason I can sleep on my stomach? She told me no, if I felt confortable to do so! So, from then on I have been sleeping on my stomach.... It is wonderful. I am very careful if I turn or move during the night. I am 2 weeks/2 days post-op and I have no pain in my stomach but, my back as been hurting. I am wondering if some of that is because of all of the changes going on with my body, I am sleeping to good, or the PMS that I am going through.
Far, as I am concern sleep the way that is most comfortable for you just be careful when you are moving around in bed....
Good luck,
Ronda
My back has been hurting really bad too Ronda. I wonder what the deal is. It has never hurt like this before. I am only 29 and actually have to sit down about every 30 minutes just because of my back. I wi**** would go away soon!! My surgeon said to just take some anti-inflammatory for it, but make sure I am taking my pepcid too before I take it. Well I haven't gotten anything for it yet. But if it keeps it up I will.
It hurts right now as I am typing.
I had my surgery (Lap RNY) on 11/27. I also had the worst back pain ever after my surgery. The pain was from the moment of surgery and lasted for at least 3 weeks before settling down.
I was told the pain was due to the fact that I was done laproscopically. Evidently when they do it as a lap procedure they inflate you full of air to create a "working ceiling". Ideally when this happens the patients stomach inflates upwards to provide the maximum viewing area for the procedure. However, in my case the air just spread out around my body, around my side and into my back. Basically this caused the tissue and muscles in my sides and back to separate from my torso becasue they had to keep pumping air in until they could achieve the working ceieling the surgeon needed.
After my surgery I had horrible pain when I sat, moved, laid down, walked, you name it. And it lasted a long time. While it's faded a lot now it's still kind of evident sometimes but it's much much better.
I don't know if this is the cause of your back pain, or if you even had your surgery done as a Lap. But in any case I'm sure the pain will lessen given time . Good luck!!
I did have mine Lap and that makes a lot of sense. I asked my surgeon and nurse if this has ever happened before and the really didn't tell me anything. The nurse said that it was probably from laying around the first week. I thought it was from sleeping on my back. But it still hurts after almost three weeks. I have appt to see the chiropractor Monday although it doesn't really feel like anything is out of place. I went back to work on Tuesday and it just aches all day. It seems to get a little better but still is very bothersome. Thanks for letting me know that I wasn't the only one!
Good luck to you too!
