So I am three weeks out from Open RNY as of Tuesday. I am down 26 lbs and feel great. I was told that I could move to stage 4 of the diets...(soft foods) however I am having problems with this. When I eat I get a pain right about in the middle of my chest...what the heck? It doesn't seem to matter what I eat either..bannana, pear, cracker, toast, egg....any suggestions? What I have been doing is just taking a few bites of something...chewing it very very well and then I quit eating it because I don't want the pain so I just keep drinking water and my protein shakes....anyway..I don't know how much of this makes sense, but my mind is going a hundred miles an hour and this is what came out...ha! Hope everybody has a Happy Holiday!

I am with you!!! Im 3 weeks out and still on purees. It feels like really bad heartburn. this just started for me, so I said something to the doctor and he told me to maybe slow down...but if I skow down I wont be eating at all...hehe. On thing Ive started doing is taking my prevacid in the morning and also a papya(sp) vitamin...it has helped to calm things down. Hope this helps, Courtney

i had my surgery the day after you and I also get that heart burn feeling except I puke! I feel I am eating slow enough and little bits so who knows. I have found it is mostly with meat so I am going back to just soft food and fish.

Maghan, if you are still having this trouble call your surgeons office. I let my surgeon and dietician know I was having trouble with puree on Wednesday and they scheduled an additional followup appt. for next Wednesday. If I wasn't better then they said they'd scope me to see if I had a stricture. Turns out I couldn't wait. The night after my appointment I started vomiting. Anything I tried to eat came up and then I woke up Friday morning choking on vomit. Guess that my pouch was not emptying water out and I didn't know it was full, went to sleep and when it relaxed it came back up. Not a fun way to wake up. Couldn't even get my crushed pills and a tiny bit of water to stay down on Friday morning. They got me in for an EGD by early afternoon and it turns out I did have a stricutre and it was ulcerated. They dilated me to 8 cm. and put me on Prevacid and Carafate and ordered me back to a straight liquid diet. It is such a relief to be able to drink again. If you continue having trouble even though you are eating slowly, don't hesitate to call your surgeon. Apparently most strictures happen at 2-3 months out but it can happen sooner. Don't suffer! It may be the gas in your pouch finding a place to go when the food hits. I have same feeling with my puree. I get up and walk for a minute and it usually passes. Sabrina
