Hi Y'all ~ Exercise Tips Needed for People With Knee Problems
Today is the ninth day since my Lap-Band surgery. My doctor requested I go on a liver reducing diet before my surgery. I followed his instructions and lost 23 pounds before surgery.
Today I have my first follow-up visit with my doctor. I hope and pray that everything goes well and that I've lost some more weight. I keep telling myself to take one day at a time. After reading all of your testimonials on this message board, y'all have given me the encouragement to keep going and try harder.
I take my hat off to all of you who continue to lose weight and to each of you who have had success. I notice in even myself that these past nine days have helped me to get around better. I had knee replacement surgery on my right knee and need to have the same thing done to my left knee. However, I want to lose more weight before attempting surgery on the left knee. If anyone has any exercise tips for people with knee problems I will gladly take them. I have a pool, which I love to exercise in, but it's an outdoor pool and is currently closed for the winter.
Best of luck and I look forward to chatting with y'all soon.

I'm no excercise guru, that's for sure. You might try looking for a pilates studio in your area. Pilates (Pill-ah-tees) method is very soft on your joints, so I'm sure it would work for you. If you don't have a studio, check out a book from your local library. You can do a lot of the movements w/o any special equipment. If you're a member of a gym there are probably classes that are aimed at people with joint problems. Ask around, and you'll hit it for sure. The last place you might try looking is the education department of your local hospital. Ours offers a "joint effort" class for people having joint replacemnts. I'm sure their office will know something. Wait...did you call your WLS doc?
Mary,
I would see if there are any indoor pools available for public use at a local junior college or health club. I have spoken to many people who swear by the water aerobics or even walking in the water. I know when I ran (many years ago), we would run in the deep water with a flotation device around our waists after an injury. If you get a water proof Walkman, you can listen to tunes to reduce boredom.
good luck,
April
