I'm home...and all is well

Well, I'm an official member of the loosers! Surgery went exceptionally well. The ONLY stressful part was becoming the human voodoo doll in ambulatory services prior to my being put under. Two nurses, four phlebotemi, and a partridge in a pear tree all took their stabs at me before the anethesiologist finally came in and set the IV. What else do they expect. They starve me for 10 days, then nothing to eat or drink for 14 hours before they stress me out and try to draw blood and IV? It's a miracle I didn't have a complete meltdown. I put on my iPod and listenened to some soothing tunes. It seemed to help a lttle, then the atavan helped a lot. Kind of funny, my surgical team abused my inebriated state. They actually got me to sing O Holy Night to them before they put me under. There were like 15 people standing around before I was done. Surgery nurses are creepy. I guess it did kind of soothe me a little. The only bad part was that after i sang (I'm a vocalist, by the way) the anethesiologist turned to me and made me consent to the possibility that my chords would be damaged by the tubes. It was an added risk since I valued the usage of my singing aparatus. Ya, that was comforting...woke up a few hours later. There were no complications at all. I got up and walked after a few hours. My roommate was another RNY patient, so we helped each other out during our stay. We ended up walking 40 minutes a few times a day. We truly were burning holes in the floor! The only hard part is that I still have the gnarly gas, and it hasn't started coming out yet. I have that creepy bubble under my left breast, but I'm sure it will go away soon. I'm not worried about it. Glad to be home. My recliner is right next to the Christmas tree, and let me tell you what....Pain Meds + Christmas lights = a Pink Floyd quality experience..wooo hooo! Ok. Good night everyone. Just had a semi-frightening, drug induced saunder around the parking lot (creepy people while i'm stoned...and an opossum) I'm gonna put the heating pad on my gas bubble and pray for a ripper. jake

I had my RNY on the 11th. I was home the next day and by that evening I was about to cry from the demon gas. Everyone warned me but until you feel it---wow. The only thing I can say is keep walking even if just in circles around your living room in the middle of the night. And remember this to will pass.lol

Jake: I am so glad to hear your surgery went well. I was in your pre-op class at Enloe last week. I thought I had recognized you through your picture. I was looking and looking for your update. I go to my physcologist tomorrow and then on from there. I hope to have my surgery early January 2007. Feel comforted that you sound well and look forward to hearing about your progress. I am still trying to learn how to eat afterwards. Found some protein drinks that I like and with the help of my family I hope I get the protein, supplements, water intake all figured out. God bless and Happy Christmas and have a great New Year. PS: I hope you get your 'ripper' soon!!!!

Jake - Hi! I am new to the boards so the name may not be familar. Glad that you are home and all went well. The gas....oh the gas...I am still dealing with it. Walking has seemed to help me some. Enjoy that recliner and the pain meds!!!

Jake, you crack me up! Between the evil nurses, the gas not making a timely appearance, Pink Floyd references, and the drug induced saunder... oh, and we can't forget to "pray for a ripper"!!!!! Thank you for updating us on how you're doing! I hope you just keep getting better and better as time goes on. I'm going in for my pre-opp this afternoon, with my surgery on 12/26. I'm SURE I'll have my own crazy stories to add...! CONGRATS!

Jake, I am glad to see all went well. I just got home a few hours ago. The recliner is nice until I try to get out. I am not having a good time with my pain meds. I have to cut them in half and they are just making things dull. Sipping....hard. I nedd tro walk more. My surgeon said that my surgery was textbook. I guess that's a good thing. I am so glad you are home. Take care. Corinn

Jake...ya cracks me up, you do! What a great story! I just dropped by the Dec board to post about my friend, Nancy, and thought I'd read a post or two....you will not find me here, normally...just on the Cali board....you should post there, too, (maybe you do!) and get some good vibes from people further out, too. O Holy Night by a drugged vocalist about to undergo WLS... sweet. Wish I had been there! Just wanted to say... the pain under your left breast is your new tummy pouch, dude...you'll be feeling it for quite awhile, and it will be your guide as to how you are eating... it will balk at problem food (prepare to ).... and it will let you know when it makes room for more... here's to the new YOU!!
