Exhaustion is this normal?? Please give me strength!
So sorry everyone,,,,,,,,, I have not had the energy since my surgery on dec 11th - to let alone read everyones posts and then make responses. I will in time to come. right now it takes way too much energy.
I'm not really hungry,,,, my head hunger is worse, but being not hungry makes it go away pretty darn fast. I miss having a snack whenever - but that's old habits and will go away.
I'm OKAY!! I got home from hospital on Wednesday afternoon and have been sleeping quite a bit. Up and back to bed. Saturday was my first day out. Mom and I went to visit your great grandma in the nursing home, and my brother Eddie. We were gone from 9am and didn't get home until 6pm. It was a long day and I am really tired. Sunday around 11 am we went to Canadian tire and Shoppers. Then we went to Tim's for soup. We planned to go to bingo but I was too tired so we went back to moms - at 4pm. I went to bed and didn't get up to 9:30 pm. I'm very exhausted and don't have much energy. I'm sure it'll get better each day.
I'm also not wearing my estrogen patch as directed for two weeks and now hot flashes are always here. This also makes me tired.......
Please give me strength............ to get back to being up and going and energtic.
P.S. My love and good wishes to all pre-ops and to all post-ops during your nrew journies in life too.
Love Janet
I had Open RNY on December 11th too. I got home from the hospital Friday night at 10 PM. I still have 2 JP Drains in my abdomen and a 7 inch scar. So far, the farthest I have been is to the corner of the block, back and down to the corner of the block, and back....lol. Walking up and down the front block twice. I haven't been out of my pajama's since I have been home and I too am so darn tired. I am still on percocet several times a day so I attribute it to that and to my being on a sugar free, clear liquid diet for the past week which sucks SO bad!!! I want food, even if it is pureed, or soup. I have my follow up next Tuesday at 10:15 and can't wait to hopefully get these drains out and be on pureed. What is your diet right now?
I am doing pretty well. I still tire easily and a bit of discomfort. 1/2 a Tylenol #3 a few times a days takes care of me but the doc tells me that is normal and to expect it for a while. I have already dropped 10 lbs since my surgery and 5 before surgery so 15 lbs gone - that's a nice present to me.
I am on full fluids right now and enjoying cream soups. I enjoy them the most, I do not like protein drinks. I'm trying with them but still don't like them. I can't wait for soft food/puree foods stage too. This won't start until dec 28 for me I see food and I want it, but I'm not hungry so at least that part is better. Head hunger is really hard to deal with because we know everything taste so good. Although I keep reminding myself this is why I had the surgery to put me back in control instead of food...... so try to think this way too.
Best of luck in your recovery........ Happy Holidays!
Dear Janet,
Welcome to the losing side. I'm glad that you're surgery went well. I think that you exhaustion is completely normal. Everyone is different, so don't compare yourself to others. Rest as much as you can and as much as you want. You just had major surgery and your body is healing itself. So rest, rest and rest some more.
Joanne
Ladies - exhaustion is so normal. I felt like the walking dead. I was so tired and I had trouble sleeping. I could only sleep a couple of hours at a time. I would just wake up even though I was just pooped!!
I think that in the preparation for surgery, not enough is said to prepare us for the sleepy/tiredness that we will experience. My doc said that it was all from the anesthesia and that it would wear off. It took weeks, but every week I could feel myself feeling better and more rested.
Take it slow and take it easy Ladies!!!
Congratulations and Merry Christmas to all of you!!!
