So I am one week out from my open RNY and I am finally starting to feel hungry, however I am still on my full liquid diet and cannot start the soft food diet til next week. The pudding and yogurt are not doing anything for me....I am not taking protein yet as the dr wont let me start for another couple of days....I made my husband supper tonight because I feel so bad for him not having anything "real" to eat and I think it about killed me..ha! Also..I have been drinking crystal light instead of water..is that okay? I just struggle getting water down so I figured at least I am getting some down me this way....Thanks to all *****ply!

Hey there! I'm a week out today too and I'm hungry!! I don't even get pudding or yogurt. That would make it easier. I've been on Carnation Instant Brkfst, broth, tomato juice, water, SF Jello and SF Popsicles. That's all I can have. I can't drink the Crystal Light...it's too sweet. I guess I should jus****er it down a bit. I'm struggling with protein...it's NASTY! I gag and can almost feel it come back up. It's the same thing with my liquid iron....YUCKY!!! I've lost 11lbs in 5 days....how are you doing?? Good luck and hang in there....it's going to get easier! Hugs Stephany

You guys are scaring me. Everyone I have talked to up to now has said that they were not hungry at all after surgery. My nut even calls it "the honeymoon period". I guess this just goes to show everyone's experience is a little different. I hope you feel better soon.

Hey there, I have my surgery the 27th, but I have been going to several support groups, and I have heard that the hunger and even"head" hunger takes a while to get over. I do know that Crytsal Light is fine. Have you tried ProPeL? I think that tastes pretty good and is not as sweet as Crystal Light. Hang in there girl. In a few months all of your hard work is going to pay off! CIndy

I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one struggling with hunger. My surgery was on the 5th, and almost from the 2nd day I've felt like I was physically hungry. I am also still on full liquids, although in addition to foods mentioned above I can have broth or cream based soups if they are strained. I'm lovin the Campbell's healthy request soups because even strained they still have flavor. Next week, I get to move to soft/pureed foods and can I tell ya I'm having dreams about the cottage cheese I'm going to eat next week.......and why does every dang commercial on TV have to do with food right now? Take care, Janie

Thanks to all that have replied. Since surgery last week I am down about 14 pounds...now that is my scale compared to the hospitals...so it could be off a few. I hope I didn't scare too many of you who have not had the surgery...the hunger isn't like a constant thing..and for me I am not really hungry...a lot of it is mental...my head saying "hmm..that looks really good, bet it tastes good too." So more than anything I think it is that. I move to stage 3 diet next week which I am hoping will make it better, because even though I can't eat what my family is having, at least I can eat something....I have my two week post op check Monday and as soon as I am done with that I am off to the store to buy all the new foods that I will be able to eat! Yah! Anyway, I am glad to know that everything I have been experiencing is normal...it makes me feel much better! By the way...is anybody cold all of the time? I feel like my arms are freezing all the time? Whos...probably my head again! Ha! Well take care all and Happy Holidays!

I hear you about being cold. I'm wearing heated socks and gloves at home. I hear it will be like this for awhile. Good luck on getting through till next week. I'm also on the liquids and hungry sometimes, but I know that this is part of the deal of having surgery. It will get better. Joanne

I know!!!!!!!!!!! I had my surgery on the 6th of this month and while I was off from work it amazed me while watching TV how many food commercials that they show every couple of minutes. I have learned to ignore them. I do not feel much hunger, but I think my mind is trying to convince me different. My dr requires that we stay on the cream based soups, grits, water for 6 wks and then on to the soft/pureed foods for another 6 wks. I am drinking crystal lite like crazy and so far its been enough. I eat grits for breakfast, and I haven't found a cream based soup that I like.

I too have had some bad hunger cravings! And sometimes I am unsure of myself of what to have on my first week. I would really appreciate anyone who has a menu plan for themselves that notes when they have their water, vitamins, protein, and the actual diet, that would like to share, I think this would be very helpful to those like me who haven't a clue or are to afraid to eat a variety and when. I have been freezzzzzzzzzzzzzzin too, but I think it has a lot to do with the snow that has been dumping on us today...lol. Ok any one got some menus out there let me know. Marie

I am really worried about being cold. My boys play hockey! I am in an ice rink 3 nights a week for practice and during 1-4 games on the weekends. I am going to have a lot of problems if I am cold all the time.
