Did anyone have to go on a pre-op diet to shrink the liver ????

I am supposed to be on the preopt diet. I will start tommorrw (sp) isn't that the story of my life. My date is 12/19. I just think if i could eat a low cal, fat free diet for two weeks then i would not need wls? i know that is a lame excuse. I have gallbladder removal 12/12. I am sure i wont be in the mood to eat after that. I am getting in gear today! Best wishes to you all! Joann

I am also on my two-week liquid diet. And I agree that it is horrible!! A complete nightmare bordering on cruel and unusual. I know that it is for my own good and with the exception of the first day I have stuck with it, but I can't help but think that the Doc's make it a little more strict than it needs to be. I don't know if anyone else heard this one but the dietian told me that it's only bad for three days and then your brain stops sending the "I'm hungry" message to the rest of your body. Well, I'm five days in and my body is still getting those messages loud and clear. I just keep telling myself it's for the greater good. And if I need to bite someones head off every now and then to make myself feel better then so be it. :-D

MY Surgery is tomorrow. I was only on a 2 day liquid diet. guess every doctor is different. can't wait till tomorrow morning. surgery at 10:30. Good luck everyone. Debbie

I have my surgery 2 days before you and I, too, am on the liquid diet. My doc requires 1 week of liquid diet prior and one week after the surgery. The info that I was provided also stated that it was important to be on the liquid diet to shrink the liver. It is so that the liver will be less likely to get damaged during the surgery. My doc told me anything that could go through a strainer was free game. I told him that I needed to find me a strainer with bigger holes then - he laughed. I have had the Slim Fast Optima shakes - they are supposed to help to curb your hunger. I have also had broth & then cappaccino for dessert. But, on the other hand, my sister had a differnet doc & he didn't require a liquid diet prior to surgery. Instead, he required 2 weeks of liquids after surgery. I know we can both get through this crazy no food thing. Best of luck!!
