My surgeon only does open procedures. Wish he did Laproscopic due to faster recovery. If you are having Open surgery, sign in here so I can add you to my friends list and we can help support each other through this. Before, during, and after!!

Hi Delana - I am also scheduled for an open rny on Dec 20. I previously had umbillical hernia surgery with mesh and my surgeon said she could not do lapro because of that. I am 5'4" and about 370, so I am pretty scared. You will already be on the losing side before I have surgery. Good luck. Karen

Hi Delana, I am also having Open RNY on Dec. 5th at Parma Community Hospital, in Parma, OH. My Dr. is Craig Eyman. He did a lap RNY on my daughter, Mishelle, in Feb 06. and she looks and feels fantastic! I told her if all went well for her that I would check into it. My PCP wrote the letter to Aultcare, my insurance co., and they approved it in three days. I was so surprised to have approval so quickly but I am glad. Now, I am just concentrating on the fact that I will be healthy in 6 months and as a side effect look so much better!

Hi Delana! I found out on the 1st that my surgery on Dec. 11 will be an open rny. I really wanted to have it done lap. I had a nissen fundoplication, hiatal hernia repair, that resulted in my stomach being wrapped around my esophagus like a hot dog bun around a hot dog so there is just too much unknown and danger in even trying to attempt it lap. I have come to terms with it, I think, lol...but I would be glad to help support you and would welcome the support right back!

Delana, mine is schedule to be lap but may end up being open since it is revision and it is a 'messier' surgery than a first-time RNY. I'm just figuring on waking up with a new set of railroad tracks so i won't be disappointed. Still have my abdominal binder from the vbg surgery so I am ready for it if it happens. But if I wake up with only the five little bandaids I'll be soooo happy! Wish your surgeon did lap, too, but the important thing is getting the weight off and getting your health back right? Best of luck! Molly

Delana: I just scheduled my Open for December 5th. I want the Open even though Lap may have a faster recovery, I feel there are less complications with Open. Best of Luck to everyone. Stay in touch. Peggy
