Is anyone else doing it 12/21?

Hi everyone, I am a teacher too, so I am waiting for vacation to be stapled. We have a three-week break, so I should be ready to go back without missing any time. Yesterday I went to the Contemporary Crafts Market in Santa Monica and saw lots of wearable art that I will finally be able to wear. They won't know what hit them come the next show. I should be long and lean by then if everything goes according to plan. Good luck to all my Christmas rebirths. Let's keep in touch and keep each other in our thoughts. nancy

Hi Nancy - I am another school teacher waiting without much patience for Christmas break. I live in Indiana. My surgery is scheduled the day before yours on the 20th. I will be having an open RNY. I am planning to take at least 6 weeks off after my surgery. Are you having laproscopic surgery? I am sure that recovery time will be much less. I wish my surgery was happening during better weather as it will be difficult to get out and walk in ice and snow, but lookout come spring! I do not have that many sick and personal days built up to cover being off, but our teacher's union has a sick leave bank that I can get days from. This is my time. I deserve this. I fought the insurance company since Feb 2006 and was not approved until the end of July. So often us teachers think that no one else can do our jobs and our kids will fail if we aren't there all the time (I teach deaf children and my kids do suffer if I am not there since I have special training, but I won't be there much longer if I do not start taking care of myself!) I am 54 years old, 5'4" and approx 370. Good luck trying to keep the nerves in check. Keep in touch. Karen

Hi Karen, I AM doing it laproscopically at least that's the plan. We have three weeks off, so I am hoping to go back on time, but I have a couple of sick weeks in the bank, so I am not worried. I wish you could come out here for yours - I plan on blue sky with big, puffy white clouds and walks on the beach while I recupe. I will be 54 in 2 weeks, but I am 5'10 and about 310. I am hoping to buy 'poetry' clothes in June in a size 10-12. I can't wait to get started, and I would love to stay in touch. What grades do you teach. I am an 11th grade English teacher - maybe our kids could penpal or something. I teach in a poverty school of Hispanics and blacks; it could be very interesting and give my really low level kids a reason to write. My email is [email protected]. Good luck, nancy

Blue sky with big puffy white clouds with walks on the beach, boy am I jealous. It will probably be freezing cold and icy, with walks on the treadmill in the bedroom that needs painted. Sorry, I couldn't resist jumping in here. By the way, I teach special education English, grades 9 and 12 in a rural area, our school has about 800 students. Bridget

Hi Erin, I am looking forwrd to the imposed rest and relaxation that comes with this. Right now, my community-service club is just starting their annual Angel Project, and I will spend almost all my time shopping for over 100 kids and their families. It will cure my shopping habit for awhile. But I can't wait to be a 10-12 by June and buy some fine artsy clothes. I saw so many at the craft fair - if I were small now I would have spent handsomely...and then some. But I have patience...all I bought was a gorgeous scarf. Best of luck, nancy [email protected]

Nancy, I just wanted to say welcome and congrats on getting your date. I've never been to the SM fair, is a yearly thing? When it is? Joanne

HI Joanne, It's actually twice yearly, the first weekend in Nov. and the first weekend in June. I spent very little money this time, but come June, when I am down to a normal-sized person, I will spend so much on artsy clothes that I saw this time...and oh, I can't wait to be a 10-12 (since I'm 5'10). Wanna go? My email is [email protected]. Nancy
