Hi Patti, welcome to the December board. I hope you don't mind me asking, but what is Medifast?

Hi! I don't mind at all... Medifast is a liquid shake diet. My doctor wants you to try to lose close to 10% of your weight before surgery so this will help you lose it without a doubt! 5 packets of this shake mix a day mixed with water or ice is all I can have for 5 weeks. This first week I can also have 4 oz. of another protein a day and a small salad. The next 4 weeks it is shakes only. I go in every week and get weighed in then buy 5 more boxes of shake mix. The surgeon also said a big reason to do this is that is shrinks your liver so it is not so much in the way of the stomach and he has less of a chance of accidentally touching it. Thank God it is medically supervised! There are people doing this on their own just to lose weight (you can get it on the internet) and it actually sounds dangerous for long term use, doesn't it? Take care, Patti

Hi Patti, Welcome to the board. I thought I was going to have to do the Medifast thing as well, but my doctor said no. I just have to do an extremely low fat diet since I'm doing pretty good at losing weight. I wish you the best on Medifast and know that although it may be rough now or even in the coming weeks, it WILL be worth it. Joanne

Thanks Joanne, Today was the end of my 1st week on Medifast and I weighed in today and actually lost 10 pounds. That made it feel all worth it. If I can keep how good it felt to step on the scale today in mind then I know I can do this. Good luck to you too and keep in touch! Patti
