Unsuccessful?

I was looking around this site today and found a whole forum for people who have had WLS and then been unsuccessful at losing weight. I am shocked and frankly a little worried. I had no idea that was even a possibility.

Hockey Mom, Funny, I was doing the same thing today and saw the unsuccessful stories. Or even those that lost it very slow. I, too, am worried about the same thing, but I did notice that those that were unsuccessful, were those whom did not follow the doctors orders. I am sure that you and I will be among those who will be successful. We'll keep a positive attitude. Marie

As Marie said, follow doctors orders. There is or was a girl on my Va Board this summer who had Dairy Queen 1 week after surgery. Hello, there is a reason that we need the surgery. You should go to a WLS support group in your area and there will be people who are getting ready for WLS or people who have had it months or even years ago. They could give you tips. Don't let that discourage you at all. You can do this! Cindy

I agree with the previous posters. I think a lot of it comes down to following the doctors orders. Although I know that some people do have complications (you should check out that board as well) But personally, I feel as if some people just aren't truly mentally ready. Years ago, I thought I was ready and even got clearance from the pyschologist, unfortunately I ended up not being able to go through with it since I got pregnant. But now I've been in therapy for over a year and realize I was in no way truly ready for the surgery back then. But I think if you go into this with the right intentions you WILL be successful!!! Hockey mom, please be positive for your self!!!!I have not had my surgery yet, my date is Dec. 12,2006...But let me tell you my pre-op story briefly. I have been trying for moths to get approval until I found Dr.Patel in san antonio texas..I was given a three weeks per-op diet and at first I did not follow their orders actually and I lost slowly. But I tell you once I did the protein drinks and the one saucer meal in the evening with lots of water. I lost two dress sizes and 15 pounds. It's all about the person and one thing I found out also you gotta exercise no matter how you feel ....If it's nothing but cleaning the house from top to bottom....I think you will be ok....I will keep in touch with you and do your best to change you.....*************

I too am a little nervous about the whole thing.. I have read people that have gained weight after the surgery from all the iv fluids. Some have even gained up to 20 lbs or even more... I am going to walk my *ss..off when i get out of surgery.. I think if we just stick to the diet religiously it should not be a problem, Just move move move...No matter how you might feel.. Remember this is just a tool not a cure and it is gonna take alot of effort from each and every one of us.. Good luck to you all!!
