Hi, ah yes joints. Even after losing 65% of my excess weight I still have joint pain. I have had both knees replaced, one twice, 3 shoulder surgeries due to torn rotator cuff, capral tunnel, and 2 surgeries to my left foot and ankle.( plus 5 other surgeries, and I am only 54) I did not realize they replaced shoulders. I imagine after healing you will feel much better. I know after my shoulder surgeries, I had to sleep in a reclining chair for about 3 months, so if you do not have one, but can borrow one, that might be a good idea. Also consider getting the wrap around gel pack for shoulders, it is easier and lighter way to keep it iced after surgery. Be sure to stay on top of whatever exercises and therapy they give you, and don't be like my friend who decided to try some on her own which had not been recommended! Ps don't forget to ask for liquid pain medication and nausea medicine!! And try to get it filled before surgery, so you do not have to stop on the way home. Blessings!

Topic: RE: having problems
I had mine out more than 10 years before this surgery, and my dr does it at the same time if patients have not had it. I really do not understand how it occurs that one gets problems post op since the main problem is from eating highly fatty foods...( they said "fertile fat and forty" are the heavy hitters for this) that is how I had the problem. If we eat that type of food now I would think it would make us sick, let alone make losing weight harder. The stones certainly do hurt though, don't they? As far as the surgery goes, I presume they will do it laproscopically. I did airplane production work back then, and only missed 2 wks of work. I will warn you about one thing, whatever foods they tell you not to eat afterward, believe them, because I did not follow the plan and got very ill, and you certainly do not need that at this point. I am sure your surgery will go well, and you will be feeling much better soon. Blessings.

Hi, Jan. What I meant by the honeymoon being over is that, for me, the rapid weight loss is over. I'm no longer dropping several pounds per week. Now, I'm lucky if I get 5 pounds per month. I work out 5 days per week, eat two protein supplements per day, and I don't eat sweets. I snack too much some days which I think is slowing down my weight loss. I hope I didn't discourage you. My doctor just told me the first 6 months is the rapid weight loss phase. Take care and best wishes. Sherry

Hi, Diana. Does your surgeon have an aftercare support? I'd start there. No, I don't think you're crazy. This surgery works on our tummies, not our heads. I do not believe most people became moribidly obese ONLY because they love food. There are many factors. I would start with your surgeon and if they don't help, contact the help line through your employer. Keep us posted and best wishes. Sherry
