Topic: RE: calcium citrate in a chew
I haven't went to pills yet. I don't think that I will. I just feel if we get more from liquid into our bodies why go to pills and may get only a third of it. Just me.
Topic: RE: Has anyone started to lose their hair?
I have eaten a little salad. At first I was mostly chewing it afraid to swallow the lettuce. Now I eat a little every now and then. I really love tomatoes more than salad.
I loose my hair EVERY time I have surgery. So it is hard for me to say if my hair lost is from the WLS or just another surgery. I do know it is a lot thinner now. I can see day light shinning through it. I wear it curly so you really can't tell unless you really know me that it has thinned out.

Hi Jane..
Ughgghh.. I think I've been lossing hair since day one to be honest and I sure am hoping that that will come to a stop soon.. been using silica complex by puritan's pride.. based off a recommendation of someone from this site
As for salad.. I eat salad all the time.. but I stick to green lettuce because it doesn't make you as gasious as head lettuce!! I find that it goes down easy and has been fine in the digestion depo..
good luck

Topic: how much have I lost????
Some of you said I look as if I had lost more than 50 when you saw my pictures on the profile. I said I would post when I came from the doctors today.
Again it depends on where you start from.
I am 5' 61/2"
highest weight 315
in that pink dress 290
day of surgery 279
on the icon picture I am not really sure but I think 250
DRUM ROLL taaaaadaaaaa
Today 229.4
So if we go from 315 - 229 = 86 total lost
day of surgery 279 - 229 = 50
Where ever you take it I am HAPPY and it doesn't hurt being tall either
Topic: RE: Has anyone started to lose their hair?
I eat salad, but it does upset my stomach. Too much roughage I guess.
I started losing my hair almost 12 weeks to the day of surgery. I have been getting LOTS (60 - 100 grams) of protein and it hasn't helped. I think that's a bunch of bull and either you are going to lose it or not. I've added hair and nail vitamins and started using Nexxus Botonoil shampoo, but honestly, I don't think it does a darn thing. I just plan to ride it out and wait for it to grow back.
Good luck!

Topic: RE: How much protein?
I hate to ask, but are you exercising? My doctor got onto me a few weeks ago about not exercising almost every day. I was only losing a pound or a pound and a half a week, with a 4 pound week thrown in there every now and then. Since I've started walking every morning (mon-fri) for 30 minutes, I'm losing very steadily.
My doctor said between 60 and 90 grams of protein a day and 1000 to 1200 calories. I honestly don't think 600 calories is enough for you, but I know all doctors recommend different things.
Best Wishes.

Topic: Has anyone started to lose their hair?
I have first started to lose my hair when I was only 2 months post op. I asked my surgeon if this is normal....and she said it can be. She suggested I up my protein.......UGH....I thought I was getting enough....60+ grams a day. Has this happened to anyone else yet? and if so, has anything worked as far as a supplement? Also, I am dying to have a salad.....I am not sure if its too early or not. has anyone alse tried salad yet?
Thanks,
Jane
Topic: RE: How much protein?
My nutritionist indicated that normally people require a minimum of 50 gms of protein per day but for WLS patients the minimum is 60 gms per day; it is even better if you can get in 80 to 90 gms per day. Always eat protein first before you consume anything else. Helps with hunger and hair loss too. Surgeon and nurse also advised the same. Please don't eliminate your protein to break a plateau - your body needs this replinshed everyday! Good luck - Jenny !
Topic: How much protein?
I am on another plateau. I am wondering if it is because I am not getting in enough protein. After my last plateau my surgeon said to cut back on the protein drinks and just eat regular healthy foods. It brought my daily calories under 600 and the plateau broke, but now I am on another plateau. I really can't take calories below the 600 I am eating, and, I am scared to go below the 25-35 gm of protein that I have been getting. Exactly how much protein were you all told to eat? And, how many calories?
Thanks, Sunny
