Topic: Free 8-week Ballys pass
Hi everyone, I kept meaning to post this and now it's almost too late.. i know a lot of you have gym memberships already but for those of you, like me, who don't, the discovery channel is having this national fitness challenge thing and if you register for it (registration is free), you get a free 8-week membership pass to Ballys.
When I was heavier, I was always a little (ok, a LOT) intimidated to go to a gym (yes, I know this is crazy but it's how I felt!) so I never joined one. Now, I'm considering it but this seemed like a good way to really get a feel for it and it's a long enough pass to make sure I'd really go and whatnot...
Anyway, there's information about the fitness challenge (which I'm not really doing anything with) on health.discovery.com if anyone's interested.

Topic: RE: Vitmins, pill advice, help please
Here is what the docs attached to at St. Vincent's Baratric center in Indianapolis have us take.
Daily
3 chewable flintstones complete
1500mg of calcium citrate a day has 400U of Vitamin D in each soft chew.
We used to take calcium carbinate but it was recently found that citrate is better absorbed the carbontate exact kind I take is 3 citrical soft chews
Weekly
100 mg B1
1000 mcg B12 sub-lingual RNY bypass the section that absorbs B12 so it has to be sub-lingual.
AT my one year appt. my Vitamin D was really low, this can cause hyperparathyroidism which can cause kidney problems. I have to supliment with 50,000 units of Vitamin D for 5 days then redraw.

Topic: RE: Vitamins make me feel worse?
Thank you for your response. I started on Flistone's chewable in the very beginning after surgery..Doc. said one wasn't enough cuz my bloods were coming back low..so I started taking 2,,still not good enough...I was on Flistone's until I was taking 4 a day..Finally my doctor told me to try something else because apparantly Flinstone's doesn't have what I need...So I started taking Centrum chewables..on that for awhile and bloods came back bad...Doc told me to take 2 a day + a B12 supplement...Soooo that's what I've been taking. I haven't been consistant with taking my vitamins...but when I am taking them everyday I feel sooooo tired..and just BLAH! I think I'm going to talk to my Pharmacist and see what he recommends...
Thanks Again!

Topic: RE: TAILBONE PAIN
Hi Joanne. It's reassuring to hear that I'm not the only one, but yes my tailbone hurts. It's about my only complaint and it is certainly something I can deal with. I used to love to ride my recombinant (sp?) exercise bike but now it hurts my tail bone too badly, so I rarely use it any more. The pillow idea is a great suggestion - we probably should carry around a little inflatable travel pillow for the times when it really gets to us!

Sandy, isn't it funny how other people react to something that is so personally about you? I am fortunate that my closest work friends have been very supportive - they have truly been wonderful. There are other more distant friends/acquaintances that have made catty comments - things like - wanting to lose weight "the hard way" or "the real way" and not like I did it. You know they are just jealous but they still are hard to deal with. Why can't they just be happy for us?
Remember that you did this for you and no one else! Their problems are their problems.
My biggest issue has been with my best friend who is heavy - a big part of our bond was shopping together and frankly just being fat together. She has had a very hard time with my weight loss. She doesn't want surgery which is of course her choice, but it has been a real struggle for her to come to terms with our redefined relationship. She's doing better, though. We've been able to talk about it and that helps...
And no, I am not tired of the attention yet either! Loving it!
Topic: RE: 1 YEAR WEIGH IN
Thanks for the check-in prompt, Candy. It's great to see how well everyone is doing!
Surgery weight: 277
Today's weight: 157
Goal weight: 150
Height: 5'6"
Although I am losing verrrrrrry slooooowly, the scale is still moving down and not up which thrills me to no end! I am very happy at this weight and feel great.

Daniele, you weigh 156 lbs. That is not horrible at all!!!! That is fabulous. Do not be sad - rejoice in your success so far and be motivated to continue the healthy habits you know led to that success.

Tracy,
Look at the ingredients in the vitamins and maybe try a different one. Sometimes you can be allergic to something in a supplement, just like something in a food. I take flinstone complete chewables and don't have any problems.
Just a thought,

Topic: RE: help! encouragment needed
Kari,
Just like Becca, I congradulate you on your success. You have come so far and you should be proud of what you have accomplished. You are no longer 400 pounds! You will get to where you want to be, just give it time. Don't get discouraged, you are doing great. Be proud of how far you have come. I am proud of all of us for what we have accomplished. It is not easy. Just get back to basics. Protein, protein, and water, water!! Don't forget exercise! You will get there.
