Topic: RE: What does your daily menu look like these days?
Hi Diana! I give you credit that you can consume all of that in a day! For me this is an average day:
Breakfast: RTD 51 Protein Shake (51 grams)
Snack: Protein bar (15 grams)
Lunch: Lean meat and a green vegetable, if I can eat the veggie
Snack: Protein bar or cheese stick
Dinner: Lean meat and side veggie or Protein shake, depends how I feel
Snack: Sugar free popsicle
Water 50-72 oz a day
Exercise 3-4 times a week 45 minute cardio - light weight lifting or 1 hr of dance.

Thanks Becca. This helps. I often read and post on the January board, and they are all into shakes and protein bars...it makes me worry that I might be eating too much "normal" food. I am glad to see that you too are eating real foods only. I also enjoy salads, fruits, veggies and a few treats now and then.

Nice profile and pictures. I had surgery Dec 9 and have gone from BMI 55 to 39.5. I have 4 lbs to my 1/2 way point. That will feel good. I am a Christian too...it looks like they got rid of the christianity forum.... that is too bad. I got this surgery as an answer to prayer... like Abraham I stepped out into the unknown, following and trusting God to take me to the land of milk and honey and He sure has been faithful.
I have lost a bit more than 84 lbs, my 31 yr. old daughter had it in Nov in the midwest where she lives and she has lost 121 lbs and is smaller than in High school!
Praise God for his grace and help. Have a good week Pam
Topic: RE: Dr. Appt in the morning..Help!
My surgeon was Jeffrey Hunter Federal Way Virginia Mason. He is very good. I only had a one month checkup then 6 mo. At the 1 month I had tests to check for iron deficiency. 6months will check for vitamin deficiencies. I have had 3 meetings with nutritionists and have one in a couple weeks. My regular Dr. does blood chemistries every 6 months already, so I had that 2 weeks ago my calcium levels were fine, too. and am 5 mo out today. My good insurance ends at the end of the month, so I will be getting my 6 month post-op checkup about 10 days early. After that is is yearly.

When I was about 3 months out, my surgeon ordered the following: CBC w/Diff, Chem 18, folate, and Iron Studies (whi*****lude, ferritin, TIBC, Iron saturation, and iron level). I didn't have my protein checked because I average 70-90grams/day (doc wanted 65-70).
Unfortunately, most PCP's are not trained in WLS. What you could suggest is that he/she get in touch with a surgeon who does the surgery. The "good" surgeons will be more than willing to educate. Another suggestion is to give him the link to this website or any/all informtation that you've obtained. The PCP's I've dealt with are skittish about taking on WLS patients mainly because they're (the docs) hearing all of the bad stuff related to the surgery and just aren't knowledgeable.
Good luck with the appointment.
Hugs,
Beth

Hi Diana,
My doctor doesn't allow us to have protein shakes and bars now that we're this far out.
I eat a lot of chicken, turkey and shrimp cooked all different ways. I eat string cheese and cottage cheese as snacks and also pickles... pickles have become a big-time snack even though they don't have protein... I also drink a lot of crystal light.

I had my lap RNY in Mexico and my PCP is not trained in WLS.
At this stage what type of blood work needs to be taken?
Any other advise would be great!
