I have my 6 month visit coming up on 06/15 and I do not want to go. I am disappointed in myself. I know this sounds horrible but I really wanted to hit the 100 pound lost by my 6th month and I am 18.5 pounds away. I could not loss 18 pounds before the surgery and now I am juding myself by 18.5 pounds. Stupid I know. I look in the mirror and I still cannot believe who looks back at me. I went from 327.5 to 246.0 in less than 6 months. I know that it is almost unbelievable and wondeful at the same time but I want those stupid 18.5 pound gone! Flame me please!! I need to be cheked bad! Yolanda

Topic: Lurker coming out to visit....
Hi---I have been lurking in the background since having my surgery. I really thought I would keep up my profile ect but I have not taken the time to do so. SO quick info on me. I had my surgery on Dec 8, 2005 weighing in at 270 on surgery day. I am now unofficially at 190 almost 6 months out. I went from a 22 to a 14 now. I go back for my 6th month ck up and uppe GI on Tuesday. I have yet to discuss a goal weight with my surgeon but I am of the mind set that the weight is really just a number now and I need to listen to my body as to where it might take me. I know that personally for me--150 is probably as low as my body will go. I haven't been that weight since 9th grade. For obvious reasons--2 kids and 20 + years my body won't get much smaller than that. One issue that I seem to be having is more of mental one than anything else. When I look in the mirror--I still see me at a size 22. I don't see what others see. I can see that I have lost weight especially in my face--but I don't see it anywhere else. Anyone having this type of an issue? I know it is mental and that I was heavy for so long that it will take time for my brain to catch up with my body..... Well--thanks for listening..I will be more active here. I am getting to a point where I have pulled away and I know that I need to get back into sharing and supporting. Cuz--I sure could use some. LOL Take care Noelle

Topic: Wow moment
Just went for an eye exan a couple days ago - I am nearsighted but since my surgery my eyes have been funny and I basically have quit wearing glasses except to drive. Well, turns out my eyes have improved dramatically - I need different glasses - no wonder they were bugging me. The fellow said that even though I am not diabetic my blood sugars were most likely creeping up and that affects your vision. Now that I have lost about 80 pounds and am eating better my blood sugars have normalized and my vision improved. If I had not had my surgery I would have ended up with diabetes and vision damage!! It hadn't hit me before just how much this has affected (extended) my future. What a huge blessing! Who else has had a change in medical status and what has it been??

Topic: Stomach Virus
Wow, the first time I've been sick since surgery and I get hit with the Norwalk Stomach Virus! I've never had the diarrhea so bad in my life! I got so dehydrated that I finally went to the ER and got checked out and 2 bags of IV fluids. This little virus is so contagious and they say you shouldn't be around people for 3 days after all the symptoms are gone just to be on the safe side. (try telling my little grandson that - poor kid wanted his grandma so bad but I just couldn't go near him - I didn't want him to get this - he would've ended up in the hospital!) I was nauseated too but not like I used to get - mostly intestinal distress but it was hard to drink or eat anything because of the nausea - that is why I got dehyrdated a bit. Today has been a good day but now much pouch feels like it did at first - full the minute I eat or drink anything! I drank 1/2 a slim fast and felt so full - it was miserable. I hope this doesn't happen to any of you but if it does, beware that dehydration happens fast so you probably will need to go get some fluids. They also did a CBC and a mineral panel to make sure I hadn't ruptured my appendix or something and found that my potassium was low so got started on some of that. I was just glad to know I wasn't going to die or have to have surgery again! Here's to better days ahead! Diona

Barbara, That brought tears to my eyes - isn't that what's all about? Even with all the problems I've experienced, I'd do it again in a heartbeat! Diona

Topic: RE: I think I win
I think it must be something to do with the 4 to 5 month mark myself. I actually gained a couple of pounds and lost them again in April, now in May, I've lost a couple more. I think when my energy returned and I started working out so much, my body went back into starvation mode because of all the calories I was burning exercising. Once I started upping my protein and cutting back on carbs, it finally started reversing. I think protein and water are the two most important things and if you don't get enough, your body says 'wait a minute'! Also, when I cut back my workouts a bit, I started loosing again. Not sure if any of this will help you, just take it for what it is! Diona

My hair has stopped falling out. My doctor's office insisted the make sure I'm getting enough protein each day. The texture hasn't changed, but there is much less of it. Fortunately, if I don't mention it, no one can tell except me.
