What do you eat WRONG?

I have always been a big cook. I am trying hard not to cook large amounts. I have cut down but still a lot of food is getting wasted. I stopped giving it to my 3 legged dog before he needed WLS. Now I am cooking less often because I feel guilty about tossing food out. I don't feel guilty about not eating it. Too many people need food for me to be throwing it away. My worst problem was going too long with out eating. I now try to make my self eat on a schedule whether I want to eat or not. The easiest thing for me to eat when I don't want to, is peanut butter on crackers. I know the peanut butter has protein. I eat 4 saltine crackers and less than 2 teaspoons of peanut butter on all of the crackers. I do this about 4 times a week. I think this is better than for me to get back into my old habit of skipping meals. I just don't know if eating crackers that often is a good idea. I sure don't want to start eating the peanut butter off a spoon. I would be back in the jar.

I too am a peanut butter fan. I do about a tablespoon a day with a very small banana. this is my morning meal. almost every day. I have lost almost 80 pounds doing this every day. I am a big mexican food fan. now i just eat the insides and not the shell. I have eaten a few wheat thins and my nutritionist said a few is ok. I try to stay away from all bad carbs. i do have to make myself eat every 3 hours. my nutrit. wants me to eat every 2 but i have a hard time doing that. especially working. so I do the best I can. I have a hard time getting the liquid in. if you have any ideas let me know.

have you tried the PB on a Apple Cinnamon rice cake...it is absolutely delicious and probably a lot more filling than saltines! Amanda

For me it's graham crackers - they seem to go down when nothing else will. I usually have some cheese or protein pudding with them but I notice they go down way too easy so I try not to have them in the house. It's the carb I am the worse with. I can not have peanut butter so find myself eating more cheese sticks. I still drink Isopure because it gives me the protein to start my day with as I am not a breakfast person. It seems everything I like for breakfast is carbs so better for me not to have it. By 9 am I am ready for a snack and usually have cheddar cheese with a couple triscuits - I love the new ones that are herb flavored plus they have fiber in them! But one or two is just fine for me. At lunch I try to eat a taco or something that is left over but find that leftovers don't work as well these days. I'm not sure why though. I can cook up a steak and eat some of it one night and then the next day heat some up and it just doesn't sit right. Anyone else having that problem? Diona

I told my mom, of course. Other than that I only shared the news with a few small number of close friends (3). And you're completely right, the general public is not educated aboit WLS. As a matter of, I had a 2 hour conversation the other night with a very close friend. I asked him how he felt and he proceeded to tell me. I let him have his spiel about all the things he didnt like about it, but how he still understood that I had to do what was right for me and my health. Anyway, about an hour into the conversation, it comes out that he has absolutely no idea what happens during the surgery. He thought I was going to go in have have actual pounds of flesh removed from my body, liposuction, tummy tuck...completely NOT was WLS is. So, after finding this out I explained the whole procedure and he was a bit more understanding, still against, but at least he knew what he was talking about now. Other than people who are very close to me, (and even the majority of them have been left out) I don't feel the need to let everyone know. It just creates unnecessary stress. There are already so many things to worry about throughout the whole WLS journey....you have enough on your plate already (no pun intended). People will project their opinions on you....and I have that a whole lotta people dont accept me having WLS...which was a shock...its kind of hard for me to understand why though. I mean, its MY body that is unhealthy, its MY quality of life that is suffering, it's MY health thats@ risk Anyway, I'm starting to babble, so I'll wrap it up! My point is, tell the people who ABSOLUTELY need to know..(parents, close family members, a best friend, the person who will be taking care of you post-op). Other than that, I wouldn't invite all that extra stress into your world. ~Amber

I actually told my friends and coworkers. I didn't care if they passed judgement on me or not. I wanted people to know that I was doing somethng for myself to become a better person. A bunch of friends came to visit me in the hospital, I got flowers from coworkers, and most of all I have their help if I need it. When I am at work and need help, they know why. I am two weeks out and am still have problems getting up and out of chairs, ect... with them knowing the surgery I went through they are very helpful. Its all about personal choice, but I was very open and don't regret saying a thing! -emily

I told my family and some friends. I also told a few co-workers. People talk so if you don't want it to get around... don't tell. And if you don't want other people to know you may want to stress to the people that you do tell that you appreciate it if they keep the news to themselves. Good luck, Chrissy

Before the surgery I just told my family and a few friends. I did regret telling a couple people, because they made negative comments. Looking back though, they were just concerned. After the surgery it just seems to come up. I've lost 80 pounds in 3 months, people notice. It's also nice to have support from people. No one has made a negative comment since the surgery. I just get told how good I look all the time. So if you worry about what people will say don't tell them. Best wishes, Amy

Thanks everyone! i was thinking about it and really there are only 4 of my friends that would need to know(2 of the 4 already know and are supportive). they are in my life the most and i get most of my support from them. i guess i was worried because when my mom had WLS she got some negative feedback and i didnt want to go through the same thing. Thanks again!

It's great that your mom went through it so you know what to expect. As far as to tell or not to tell, I see that question posted A WHOLE LOT. Everybody has a different answer for it. The bottom line, it just depends on you and who you are surrounded by. I have not had the surgery yet, but every body knows I fully intend to do so. They all know when my apts are and now that I have talked to most of my coworkers about it, they all WANT to know what each doc has said and what is going on. It was a matter of ignorance. Now don't get me wrong, there are still some people who don't approve. I thank them for their concern but let them know by NO MEANS am I taking an easy way out. Facts are hard to argue with. But you have to do what you feel is right. Tell those who you need or want to know. I am just so stubborn (Aires) that if somebody tells me not to do something, I am more than prepared to debate it with them. Unless they can give me good reason, I can stick to my guns. So just do what you think is best and ignore those who are uneducated or ignorant and remember YOU HAVE TO LIVE IN THIS BODY EVERY DAY. It's up to YOU (and of course your surgeon) what you do to it.
