How much can you eat?
I have my surgery December 12, 2005. I usually eat about 3/4 of a cup to a cup. I am worried this might be too much. Sometimes I can only eat 1/2 cup, but most of the time I can eat a cup - depending on what it is...I can't do that with meat or anything, but I can eat 1/2 cup meat and 1/2 cup veggies. Am I supposed to be able to eat a whole cup? I am just curious. I thought it might be too much, so I cut back, but when I only eat a set amount and don't get the full feeling I tend to be hungry soon after. Just curious if this happens to anyone else? Thanks!
It really depends on what I am eating. The last time I was at the doctors I was told I was eating way too much soft foods. I had to start eating denser foods. I am not a meat lover and wasn't eating enough of it. I never have but I think I could eat a whole cup of cottage cheese. But only about 1oz of chicken or other meat. It seems if I take a couple of well chewed bites of meat I am finished. I do get hungry sometimes after I have eaten. Thats when I start with the ice tea. I keep sipping on that so I will not eat or snack. I will eat a lot of soup (soft food) so I had to stop that. That was too many claories going through me.
Remember you need to drink at least 64oz every day. So people do so much more. If I get 64oz in I think I have done good. The more I drink the less I eat.
I do get at LEAST 64oz of water a day. Actually I get more like 96oz or so a day. I have had problems in the past with not getting enough liquid, so I learned quickly to become used to drinking that much. It really isn't hard now that I can drink it faster than before.
I get what you mean by what it is your eating. I know when I have soup I can eat a cup for sure. But with denser foods I can't eat as much. I can never get more than 1/2 cup of meat down at a time. It fills me up so quickly. I guess I must be doing okay then. I was just nervous because in the beginning 1oz of ANYTHING would fill me up and now I can eat a cup of some things. I just want to make sure I am not "abusing" my tool ya know?
I have to keep thinking that -83 since the surgery day is awesome!! I must be doing something right...lol. I am following the rules and getting my vitamins and water and all that stuff down.
I just wondered what others could eat to make sure I was on the right track. Thank you both for your responses!!

Sounds about par to me. I am able to eat more of watery foods....vegetables, soup, protein shakes, etc. I can get a 12 oz protein dirnk down in fiv eminutes now! I just got four chicken strips at the grocery for lunch. I ate two of them and sat very, very still for about five minutes because I was sure if I jostled too much they were coming back up! I eat mostly fish for protein, but work in chicken at least a couple times a week. I do not measure everything I eat. Label me a heathen.....but it isn't convenient and I am still losing, so I am goning on the assumption I am ok.
I am down 57 pounds since surgery, which is 57% of my weight loss goal. I think at almost five months, that is just fine!
Congrats on the success. Congrats on the fluid consumption and keep up the good work!
