WLS in December and now handfuls of hair are coming out. I know its from the anesthetic and the shock of surgery but there is a lot of hair here! I'm taking protein and vitamins and drinking. Anyone else? Is this just when it happens? How long does it last? Will it come back? Help!! Carol

I had surgery 12-1-05 and yes,I'm losing my hair as well. My doctor told me it shouldn't last too much longer maybe another month. I hope it quits soon. I CAN'T STAND IT!!! Shawney

Yep, me too! I need to buy stock in Drano!! I'd say I've lost about a third of my hair. Every time I bru**** I have to empty my brush and then I can STILL pull out tons of it. There is hair all over my house, on the carpet, in my bed, EVERYWHERE!! It's soooo gross! I am lucky I guess to have had hair that was too thick before surgery, so now it's a bit more manageable. It is getting to the point where I'm getting worried about losing more though. My surgeon said it could last until 9 pr 10 months post op, but that it should stop sooner than that. Apparently no amount of protien or vitamins will save it either. I have been getting at least 100 grams of protien per day since surgery, taking biotin and zinc, using biotin shampoo, and taking all my recommended vits...no go! It's supposed to start growing back about a year post op or so I hear.

Lol I feel the same way my hair is everywhere all over the house! Its nasty and I'm also losing hair like crazy i've lost about a third of my hair as well. The good thing is I went to my stylist yesterday and she says that she sees a lot of tiny new hairs. I just hope this stops soon before I go bald!

Well, I am going to join this crowd...I too am losing my hair. Not a lot just a few strands but enough for me to notice. Thank goodness, my hair is very thick. I am doing great with my protein and have had several surgeries in the past so I don't think it has to do with the anesthesia. I think it is just part of the process. I take my vitamins too. Yes, it will come back, just not sure when or how long it will last. Hang in there. Jodi

I have fitday as well. I find I use SparkPeople more because there seems to be more motivators for me there. I think I will be using more of FitDay.com after or if I have the surgery. I find the point system on SparkPeople find and challenging because one of my friends is on there and I try to stay in the same points range as her. It kind of challenges me that way.

I have been lucky and not lost too much. I am starting to notice more in my hairbrush though. I have thin hair so I am nervous about this. But so far so good. My nutritionist told me hair loss usually peaks between 4 and 6 months. Good luck! :D

I understand the hair loss issue. My hair was VERY thin to begin with and now it is worse. I actually have a bald spot on top. After trying to hide the thin spots I broke down and bought a wig. Best thing I have ever done!! I have so many positive comments on how good I look and people never guess it's a wig. My face looks thinner and I feel better about myself. I understand that the hair loss will end and the hair will grow back anywhere from 8-10 mths out and that no amount of supplements or hair products will help in the meanwhile. I've also heard that when the hair does come back it might have a different texture to it. Well even if mine comes back I think I will keep wearing my wig. My "hair" hasn't look so good in 20 years. Good luck, Nee P

I can relate. I noticed my hair falling out about three weeks ago. I have always had long hair, down to my waist. So when I started to see all that hair in my brush, I kind of freaked out. I could pull handfuls out and I won't even mention all the hair at the bottom of the shower. Three days ago I decided to cut it off. I was getting more freaked out everytime I brushed my hair. So I braided my hair and went to a salon and said, "Cut it all off". The girl who cut it kept asking me if I was "okay". She was all excited because I let her cut and style it the way she wanted. She said that never happens! My braid that was cut was 11 inches long and my hair is still past my shoulders. My hair has layers and I just love it! It is so much lighter and I don't notice all the hair I am losing. I have gotten so many compliments from people and they tell me how different I look. I decided to donate my braid to Locks of Love. This was one of the best decisions I've made, second only to getting GBP surgery.

That great you gave your hair to Locks of Love. I've seen them on TV
