I have first started to lose my hair when I was only 2 months post op. I asked my surgeon if this is normal....and she said it can be. She suggested I up my protein.......UGH....I thought I was getting enough....60+ grams a day. Has this happened to anyone else yet? and if so, has anything worked as far as a supplement? Also, I am dying to have a salad.....I am not sure if its too early or not. has anyone alse tried salad yet? Thanks, Jane

I eat salad, but it does upset my stomach. Too much roughage I guess. I started losing my hair almost 12 weeks to the day of surgery. I have been getting LOTS (60 - 100 grams) of protein and it hasn't helped. I think that's a bunch of bull and either you are going to lose it or not. I've added hair and nail vitamins and started using Nexxus Botonoil shampoo, but honestly, I don't think it does a darn thing. I just plan to ride it out and wait for it to grow back. Good luck! Hi Jane.. Ughgghh.. I think I've been lossing hair since day one to be honest and I sure am hoping that that will come to a stop soon.. been using silica complex by puritan's pride.. based off a recommendation of someone from this site As for salad.. I eat salad all the time.. but I stick to green lettuce because it doesn't make you as gasious as head lettuce!! I find that it goes down easy and has been fine in the digestion depo.. good luck April

I have eaten a little salad. At first I was mostly chewing it afraid to swallow the lettuce. Now I eat a little every now and then. I really love tomatoes more than salad. I loose my hair EVERY time I have surgery. So it is hard for me to say if my hair lost is from the WLS or just another surgery. I do know it is a lot thinner now. I can see day light shinning through it. I wear it curly so you really can't tell unless you really know me that it has thinned out.

I have been losing hair and it seems to be getting worse each week. I have been taking Biotin and Zinc right along so not sure if it is helping or not. My nurse practioner said I would just have to live through it.I had salad for the first time yesterday with a South Beach Pizza. Yummy - both things. I had red lettuce and cuke with low carb ranch dressing. I chewed and chewed, and did fine with it. It was also my first time with the pizza thing and that was great. I had the one with chicken, spinach and red peppers.

I'm not losing any hair...my hair has gotten longer and shinier. I've been taking 5mg of Biotin since I was able to start my supplements, (not really sure if it's genetics or the Biotin. My Dr. ok's the salad and I'm loving it!

Hi Jane and everyone: I was really worried about losing hair because mine is so fine, that if I lost any, it would be BAD. Anyway, so far I haven't lost any hair. I don't know why. The only thing I can figure is that I don't drink liquid protein drinks at all and I get most of my protein from animal sources: dairy and meat. I have heard that there is a difference between complete proteins and incomplete proteins. Animal products are complete, and plant products (soy, vegetable proteins) are incomplete. Anyway, *****ally knows? I am just feeling very lucky not to be losing what little hair I have!!

Jane: I forgot to answer the second part of your question...Yes, I have been eating salads for about a month. I too was craving them. I even tried a pretty dense salad made with carrots, celery, red bell peppers and onions. If you chew very thoroughly, it is fine. I know some people can't tolerate salads ever, so I was a little scared to try, but after I did I was just fine with them. I actually eat a lot of fruits and veggies now, both raw and cooked. Just chew, chew, chew! Diana
