42lbs........

Hi friends, I am grateful for my loss since my Dec 19th surgery. I started out at 269 and am now 227. I know in my HEAD this is huge. I realize it but today I feel so weepy because it seems like I'm creeping along while others of similar starting weights/surgery dates have already lost 50lbs and up. What's wrong with me? I'm eating about 1100 cals a day 60 grams of protein and exercising at my gym 3 x a week. I see these posts on the main board all the time and I'm sure people are sick to death of it- so I wanted to post it hear to all my December siblings.... I feel like I'm the only one that's not shedding weight at an astronomical speed. I know this is stupid because I've never lost 42lbs in three months before but... Well you know how the post-op brain works. The only thing I can think of is maybe my water intake isn't up to par. Thanks guys...

I think this is the better place to post these concerns because sometimes the veterans can be a little tough on us and call us whiners when really we are just experiencing the novelty of all this and deserve to have and go through all the same emotions and concerns that they went through way back when.. go figure Reading your post made me feel so much better today because I realize my own concerns about this whole process aren't crazy. So yeah.. I can relate.. today I've been in a total funkness because I basically have only lost 1 pound in the last two weeks.. it's my second stall so far and it feels like none of my tweaks have worked and it sucks and blah.. in that.. I unsuccessfully have been trying to pick a fight with my fiance all morning and he thinks it's all very funny and that I should just relax.. I think I can laugh now.. hehe I'm trying really hard not to go by the numbers.. but it's soooo conditioned in me to equate my increasing health here to a number. And it all can't happen fast enough for me.. so I feel your concerns there too. Just some ramblings.. April

Glad my post could help Yes the veteran's can be very rough on the new post-ops. Many get annoyed with these sorts of posts but like you said we ARE experiencing it for the first time and do deserve to post our concerns and get feedback. But then there are many great veteran's whom I really enjoy. Tooter is one! I totally relate with you two- I equate my freaking self worth with the scale number! It's utterly ridiculous! It needs to stop! We are doing great, ladies and a year from now we'll be at goal or almost there and worrying about losing those last 10 lbs!

I know how you feel. I think its that first two weeks of dropping it like its hot. Then our bodies start to fight back. Not only that the food increases. Not much but an increase never the less. I was 279 at day of surgery. I was floating on a cloud. Couldn't stay off the scale. Then the first stall. I kept telling my self and I still do, that these people that are dropping weigh more than I did. I can't expect to do what they do. I am happy with the way I am looking. Went into a second stall I feel because of the medicine they had me on had sugar in it. When I finished that I lost again. Even if I don't loose but a pound a week for the next year that will still be 52lbs. And when have we lost 52lbs in a year and it stayed off?????? So lets all feel good about what we are gaining. Or should I say loosing. Oh one other thing that does not make sense to me, I do loose inches when I don't loose pounds. That doesn't make any sense to me at all. But hey if it works I'll take it

I can relate to all this too. And, anyone who wants to vent and cry and whine and even rant here is welcome to do it! *****ing and moaning are also allowed. LOL! One thing that I tell myself is that if I lose it slowly, maybe my body will have time to adjust to it and I wont get as much sagging as I would if it just flew off me. This thought usually gives me some comfort. It 's not unusual that a lot of us would lose slowly, there was probably something wrong with our metabolism at some point for us to end up obese in the first place. Just a thought. So we should all just hang in there, do the best we can and try to accept the losses as they come. Slowly or quickly, what difference will it make a few years from now? Let's try not to beat ourselves up for things outside our control. That said, on the count of three let's all yell WAAHHHH! For the bad no lose days! xoxo To all sunny

Jennifer, I just wanted to say congrats to you on your weight loss. I know how frustrating it is to see large numbers on other posts. Melissa

Jennifer -- you might not want to hear this but WOW, congrats on the 42 pounds so far! That's just so awsome. Stalling sucks and feeling like you're not losing enough is probably natural (my guess is we've all done it already?) but my guess is you're gaining some muscle weight as well as losing fat weight so that could be one reason the scale's not moving. (I can't make the same argument for me, I haven't been exercising yet -- back problems) Anyhow, most importantly, I hope you FEEL healthier and happier without respect to what the scale says. Hang in there!

Having more than 1 source of encouragement is helpful. Take your measurements everywhere once a month. Have someone take front, back and side photos of you once a month. Sometimes those will show more change than the scales. Hang in there - it's happening whether you see it on the scales or not.

Jennifer, Just wanted you to know that you are not alone. I have lost 40 pounds and have no clue what to do to move things along.
