Scales--who needs em--for now
I have been on a scale 3 times since surgery. The two week appointment, The one month appointment and the two month appointment. My next weigh in will be in 3 months at the 5 month appointment. Since I am doing pretty much everything that I need to be doing, I don't see the need to weigh myself now. I would not be able to change anything anyway so why deal with the aggrivation of not seeing the scale move. I exercise, drink lots of water, eat protein and take my vitamins. What else is there?
What do you guys think about weighing in?
Take care
Scott
Scott,
Seems like you are doing really well. Keep up the good work!
As for me, I don't weigh myself every single day. Most of the time I forget because of my busy schedule. I was weighing in once a week on the same scale, the same day of the week but I lost track so now I weigh when I remember. But, I find weighing myself helps to keep me on track. If I don't see the scale moving I know that means that I need to work a little harder. If I see the scale has moved a big difference then it just makes me feel good and helps me to continue on a positive track. Not knowing what I weigh is hard. I am the type of person that if I see the scale not moving, it hurts for a minute but then I pick myself up knowing that I am going to eventually lose the weight. When? I don't know, but its coming...
On the other hand, I think that if you are the type of person that gets depressed and down if the scale is not moving and you start weighing everyday to see changes then something is wrong with that and you need to let go of the scale for awhile. Its all about the mind and how you can handle the pressure. You don't want to become obsessed and addicted to the scale.

Scott, have you seen the TV commercial where the scale is chained to the ankle????? Thats me. And no that didn't start after the WLS. I have been that way since a teen in the 60's!!!! I know its not good. Before the surgery I did it every day so if I gained over night I would pull back the next day. Then ate twice as much the very next day. I am so bad my scale is in the bedroom not the bath room. I weigh when I first get out of bed. Then again when I come from the bathroom. So thats once with PJ's on and once with out. I really don't think I will ever be able to break that habit. I have been doing it for over 40 plus years.
Before I had this surgery=I never weighed myself-in fact, even at the Dr. sometimes I'd close my eyes so I wouldn't see that awful number. Anyway, since surgery I have been weighing every day. It is wonderful to see the numbers go down-even if it's not each day-but still-I want to keep track of each and every pound. After I'm at goal-I plan on still keeping my eye on the scale-for me, I will use the scale as a tool to keep an eye on my weight.
hah hah hah thanks but guess what I was kicking in the 50's tooooo!!!!!
I do have to admit I feel the weight lost has made me look older ugh!!!! But even that is getting better. If you look at my profile you will see me as a young (can't say little) girl and had a weight problem then. The only time I didn't have a weight problem was when I was born. 5lbs 4ozs. Yes I have always had a love hate relationship with the scale. I was trying to be nice about it. I weigh first thing out of bed in my PJ's come from the bathroom and weigh BUTT NAKED.....my PJ's must weigh 3lbs
I like to weigh in... the reasons are this:
1.) When it moves I feel rewarded for my hard work, it is a physical thing that I can see that shows me that my work is paying off.
2.) I had a month-long stall and I thought I was doing everything right... had I not weighed regularly, I would not have ever called my surgeons office and not found out where my problem was.
That said, I wish I didn't care so much about what #s showed up on that scale.
I weigh everyday for similar reason to everyone else. But the main reason I would think to weigh regularly would be that if you hit a stall you know it and can maybe adjust what you are doing to end it sooner. Everyone says that the first 6 months is the honeymoon period when we will lose the most weight, so it would be a shame not to take full advantage of that by being aware of what your body is doing. BTW you are doing great!
