How long do you take to eat a sandwich?

How long does it take you to eat a meal? I went to my dr for my 6 week appointment. The PA asked me how long it took me to eat a 1/2 sandwich. I proudly responded "about 30 minutes". She said it should take 1 hour, and to take 1 bite every 10 minutes. I was mortiified. Anyone else heard this?

Sorry Robin I have heard that it should take a lot longer than you are able to eat a sandwich. My Angel is about 8 months out and she is just now able to eat half of a half sandwich and it takes her a whole lunch hour to do it. Most of us can not eat bread unless it is toasted until after two months. I can only eat half a piece of toast before I feel totally sick. Deli meats make me gag. I was told not to try tomatoes until I was three months out because of the skin on them. You have a really powerful stomach if you can eat a sandwich with all of the fixins. I wish that I had your stomach.

I can't do bread and pasta except in very tiny amounts. The Sandwich is definitely on my no no list....Sorry. My doc's say 30 minutes to eat and no drinking 30 mins before and after or you will eat too much.

How do you eat a sandwich and stay under 50g of carbs for the day?

I have one slice of that "Oroweat Carb Counting" wheat bread (9g carb) and deli ham. With mustard. It is a great lunch for me.

I am 9 wks post op. My nutritionalist says alot of people can NEVER eat bread because it mushes and can clog the stoma of our pouch. First dry cracker is tried after 2 months, then between4-6 mo toast can be tried. I was also told no fresh fruit or veg (canned only****il at least 3 months or more, and tomato must be peeled first.] REGARDLESS OF WHATwe put in, it needs to only be 3 to 4 oz. in 1/2 hr. I don't know any sandwich which would only be that tiny even if it was 1/2. I would be too concerned about stretching my pouch to even try. It is all I can do to get in my protein, plus 1 or 2 oz of fruit or veg a day right now.

Robin, I personally have never heard one hour to eat something. My surgeon suggests it should take about 30mins. He says that gives me plenty of time to chew, chew, chew. I take a bite, say my ABC"S twice sometimes three times, then I swallow. I do the same thing before I take another bite, or I watch the second hand on the clock for almost 1min and a half. I can only eat one piece of bread, and I never have it unless I toast it. I am too afraid of getting sick from regular bread. All surgeons are different, no two are going to say the same thing. I haven't tried a sandwich, but I tried a half of a toasted bagel with PB & J and it was OK. It took me 30 mins to eat and I couldn't fini**** But I haven't had a very good day today. I threw up three times! I hope I don't have a stricture. Does anyone know what that feels like?

Oh... I say poo poo to that. I have eaten half a sandwich twice. I'm not talking a sub. I mean one slice of bread (minus the crust) half a slice of cheese, one slice of deli turkey breast, and two slices of lean bacon (precooked and nuked) with a light layering of mayo. Oh so yummy! I have always loved sandwiches. The mixture of flavors are just wonderful to me. I think it took me about 25 to 30 minutes to eat the second sandwich. The first one I ate in about 15 minutes, and I hurt a little for about half an hour or so. I think you are doing fine. If you are not getting uncomfortable or sick, then screw it! Your body will tell you if you are eating too fast or too much. A half of sandwich like I listed is only a few ounces, by the way.
