My Update
Hi gang!
Well i had surgery on december 6th, 2005. Laproscopic RnY 120cm.
At surgery i was 260lbs (highest weight was 275).
Today i am at 229lbs, I have been bad and not exercising as i should.
I drink a min of 60g of protein shakes a day, though i want to up it to 120g.
i drink a min of 24oz, trying to drink 68oz ( i have had this problem all of my life, not drinking)
I only drink water(have for years) and now my protein shakes.
I have dry skin.... so drink your water Liese...!
For my fluid intake i don't count the water in my shakes as part of my water intake.
Take my vitamins, though i was bad and didn't for a few days... Back on track now.
I eat a min of 2 times a day. Though recently had to stop myself from grazing.
I am starting to have some sagging issues, my upper thighs and a little in my arms, and my boobs are ...lets just say "national Geographic"
Otherwise I am doing real well. I haven't had constipation issues yet. (knock on wood) Never thrown up.
Yes, THE Sagging.... I have lost 49 lbs and even though I do water exercise non stop for about 35-40 minutes 3 times a week, the sagging is already happening. IT is a little scarry. Hey, how old are you and how much protein did your nutritionalist say to get? I am almost 54 and mine said 58-65 gr per day. My daughter is 31 and hers said 75-85.
I have created a soup I love which is a staple for me now.
Take low fat chilcken broth, low fat refried beans, canned or boiled skinless chicken breast and mix in salsa. I really love this and eat it almost every day. For some reason I can no longer eat any form of egg I have tried 5 times from boiling to deviled to over easy and scrambled....no go. Very lean ham is easy for me to chew and digest and I eat it about 2 - 3 times a week. I am allowed vegetables but rarely eat them because I am trying to get in my protein without drinking so much of it in drinks. My nutr. says our bodies do not assimilate whey protein the same as from meats and beans.....I was drinking alot of V8 and felt good about it thinking I was getting in vitamins and liquid at the same time, but my dentist said it is too acidic and for how long it takes to drink 8 oz it is bad for my teeth enamel. I actually cried when she told me that because I love it and had thought it was a good choice for me now. I have not had any since then, but I may still drink it, but only 2 or 3 oz. a couple times a week, instead of the 8 oz 4 or 5 times a week like I was doing. Have you heard of this??? I also have not thrown up since 6 days post op when I had to go back into the hospital. However, I almost wish I had when I ate those eggs. Also, one time I was in a bind and only had crystal light with me and it was dinner time...I took the skin off a breast from KFC, and it made me really sick...I got killer stomach pains. I guess even though I took the skin off the grease from cooking it must have soaked in....BOY !!! Since then I had found Burger King has a grilled sandwich that I order only the chicken and they sell it for less than the sandwich. It is flavorful and moist, and I get about 3 meals out of it.
I still only get in about 36 oz a day... I have gastroparesis(no wave movement in my stomach) so it takes longer for the food to move out of there, so I have to wait about an hr after I "eat" until I can drink anything.
I am 28yrs old, 5ft 3in tall.
my Nutrition Clinic told me to take a minimum of 90g of protein.
*sigh* I have learned from other post ops who are way further out then us, that it is better to have the Whey Protein drinks because they are pre-digested, our bodies now cannot absorb all the nutrients it needs through food; that includes protein. Sadly Bariatric Surgeons sometimes don't have great After care when it comes to food and nutrition. Neither do they agree on what we need.
Luckily the ASBS (American Society for Bariatric Surgery) are finally starting to realize what we need.
* Vitamin's for LIFE
* Protein shakes for LIFE
I will not mess with my health.

I've learned so much from those who forged ahead of me and had to learn the hard way what our bodies need.
I am saddened by the fact that so many do this surgery (doctors) But don't do what they need to do to help their patients to succeed.
I heard from people that told me that their nutrition clinics told them to stay away from protein shakes, and then wonder why their hair falls out, and look haggard and sickly.
Hi! I had my surgery 12-16-95 and have lost 40 pounds so it looks like I am in line with everyone else...I am finally on all foods and all seem to go down well...I have not however, thrownup yet, thank God for that. I am really careful about what I am eating but I am having problems with the constipation department. I think I am eating too much cheese and that is what is causing the problem. Anyway, other than that, I have done really well. I had open and my "g" tube was in for the first 6 weeks but now that it is out, I am feeling much better. I can understand what you are saying about the boobs...mine are a mere shadow of what they used to be....sigh....and my butt is disappearing too. I am getting a turkey neck and all my wrinkles have lost their support (the fat). Wwell, what can I expect...I am almost 56 years old so I shouldn't have any complaints, right? I am thrilled with the 40 pound loss and hoping for some more. I am at a stall right now and hoping that extra walking will help that along.
Hugs,
Betsy
Hello all,
I have lost 49lbs. seems like sometimes I still have to fight like mad for every pound-but I'm grateful for the opportunity to have this surgery. I still like to eat and enjoy going out to restaraunts. I have never dumped-not once-but really have been pretty strict with myself over avoiding the sugar and fat. I am getting those famous bat wing arms-YUCK. I try to excercise every day-walking for 30 min. at 3mph-except Sunday. I have not lost any weight in my boobs-at least not yet-but really, every other time I dieted they were the first to go. I went to JC Penney's today and they are having a 75% off sale. I bought some great bras-Bali, Playtex-ect. for $2.77 each-I think I bought a dozen. I'm usually a "walmart" kind of shopper so I'm grateful to be able to buy "better" bras for that price.
Today my DH and I went out to eat at a new restaraunt for Vday-I had a portabello mushroom with feta cheese-YUM. It was great and it went down well.
I am over 50 also-52 to be exact-and I have a real metabolism problem. I dont' think I have one. My hubby, dear that he is, has decided that although he wouldn't think of having surgery-he's dieting with me-and I have only lost 10 more pounds than he.
Anyway, my stomach is starting to hang down to there! I have been getting a little yeast type infection-OUCH-under that thing. Well, it's interesting to hear from all of you. Keep us informed.
