How can you all eat so much?
I've seen different surgeon's websites describing a 1 oz pouch and others a 2 oz pouch - not sure what to make of that other than that the 2 oz pouch can obviously hold more sooner.
I was able to eat 4-5 tablespoons of food (depending on the food - some are denser than others) up until about 6 weeks. Then it seemed like I could eat a bit more. Now at 8 weeks it seems like a bit more again. We're not talking big differences though. I think now I'm at about 3.5 oz.
One difference might be people drinking while eating which would allow them to eat more.
I think you need to speak to youir surgeon an d nutritionist about this because you will find it difficult to get in you nutrients with that low of intake. I usually eat 2 1/2 to 3 oz and just hit 2 months on Thursday. Your stoma may be too small and need to be stretched or there may be another situation, so get checked out, ok?
Also, drinking while eating bloats and works against you in the long run.
i am 2 months out and can eat 1/2 cup to 1 cup. Though i keep it to 1/2cp.
my downfall right now are peanut butter crackers, i can eat a whole pack (6) and not bat an eye. So i have had to parcel them out. only 3 ...
Depending on the food, slider foods are less dense and can be eaten more. That is why you can gain weight, (one way around the surgery).
but depending on what your surgeon did, you should be able to eat up to 4 oz now.
I never drink while eating, don't want to. I want Elmo to feel full (elmo is my pouch...lol)
I guess I am blessed because 3 oz really fills me up. I have eaten 4 oz twice and it felt like after THanksgiving in the old days, so I don't do that anymore...sometimes I even spit a bite out that is in my mouth if I think I am starting to feel full. I only get hunger pains if I wait 1/2 hr longer than when I first feel hungry. Even drinking fills me up. I am grateful because it makes it easier to comply I think.( there is alway the head issues, but I will be working through those for quite awhile, after all I have had the bad habits for 35 yrs!!!)I TOO MEASURE EVERYTHING BECAUSE IT WAS RECOMMENDED AND I DON'T WANT TO STRETCCH MY POUCH.
Hi:
I am 1month and a few days post op I am still on liquids. When I do eat solids I cannot eat a lot. A 4oz cup of yougart I eat half, a piece of chicken only a corner- but soups or liquids I can drink about 4oz of just broth or soup w/o feeling full- I have been able to drink water about 10mins. after I drink my soup probably because it's all liquid. If I eat a solid or swallow too much I have thrown up but that has only happened twice. My doctor said my pouch can hold 2oz, and for about 80% of the time I believe him.
I have been wondering the same thing... most times I can't even eat 1 oz. and everything makes me nauseas. I was just at my dieticians office last wednesday and she told me to up my protein supplements and try and eat a little protein throughout the day. She also told me not to wait so long to drink. I am only getting in maybe 300 cals a day, so I am even to the point of bending the rules of the pouch in order to get everything I need in. I feel like I am going to just waste away seeing as how I can't even eat two bites of anything!
I can eat up to 3/4 cup of food. This past month, I was suffering from acid reflux and heartburn really bad. They said I was either eating too much or too fast. I measured everything and watched the clock when I ate at home. The doctor did an EGD two weeks ago and found a stricture.
I'm finding that it's very difficult to eat slowly at work. I find myself eating lunch while on conference calls and not paying attention to what I'm doing.
I was in so much pain after eating that my surgeon had me go back on liquids for a couple days. I am now starting to feel full again on smaller amounts.
I'm taking it slow...
