Relief just a few pounds away?

Before surgery I had double sciatica with one knee minus any cartilage. Went to the Ortho a couple of weeks ago about the knee replacement and one question he asked was "any pain relief from the wt loss?" Well the answer was a definite "no", but last week we were in Idaho for a few days and I realized I hadn't used my crutches for 2 days. So continued to test the leg and finally after a lengthy shopping trip with daughter and grandaughters needed to get back on the crutches very quickly. Have been very watchful since and the sciatica seems to be retreating. I've been on crutches or cane for the last 13 years so I'm cautiously optimistic. Going without that everyday nauseating debillitating pain seems too good to be true. Anyone else experiencing any relief from some of your pre-op co-morbidities? This double sciatica was my number one reason for the WLS and if it's going away, color me happy!*! Shar

Over the years I have had both knees totally replaced. 4 hip replacements. I have two walkers, a wheel chair, a cane in the house and one in the car. I am to use the cane when ever I walk. I still have pain but it is pain that I can deal with. So I haven't been using the cane. If I can make it from the parking lot to a basket I am good to go. I even walk the long way around the store so I can get more walking in. Before WLS, I would drag my poor grandson with me to reach for things on the bottom shelves and to get things off of other isles when I have just about given out. He has not been to the store with me in about a month now. You really don't notice the change then one day you think did I just walk without my cane or did I really reach the bottom shelf. Today I even tried bending over in the chair to tie my shoes. Usually I pull my leg up to me. I DID IT! But I'll take it slow on that. Don't need another hip replacement

I have had partial knee replacement on both knees, have 7% partial paermanent disability in one foot and ankle and I have been doing continuous exercises in the local po9ol for 30-40 minuters for about a month now 3-4 times a week. It is working... I would never be able to walk etc for exercise because I use an electric scooter for distances. I can tell that the 44 lbs I have lost so far has made a difference on my mobility. It can only get better for us from here. I sure wish I could take my Celebrex though, it gave me so much relief.... Blessings

I know what you mean by your Celebrex. I was hooked on BC Powders fpr decades. I am taking liquid pain meds now. But I still think the BC's worked faster and better.

Hi Shar, I was born without 70% of my left socket and had a pelvic osteotomy about 2 years ago. I've taken 35 pounds off since my surgery and can say after so many years of pain, I've had 1 day of horrible pain since the surgery. The temp also dropped from the 50's to the 20's in a matter of hours so I think that on top of me working long hours that day it did me in. I have had nothing other than that though and couldn't be happier. I wish the same for you oneday, I understand how frustrating it can be.
