eating too fast

Hi everyone, Well, today I did what I kept fearing I'd do. While rushing to get ready for work, I was eating breakfast and doing five other things and took a bite like I used to do in the old days... chewed quickly and swallowed. As soon as I did, I had that UhOh feeling. It was the first time since surgery (Dec. 28) that I hadn't chewed my food to the consistancy of applesauce... and eventually -- after feeling like my chest was on fire from the inside -- it came back up. But then lunch didn't go down so well and I mostly skipped dinner. Hopefully I'll feel back to normal tomorrow. Has anyone else done this yet?

I have eaten too fast, but thankfully kept it down. I wasn't even thinking about it and took what used to be a regular bite of cottage cheese, barely bit on it and swallowed. The moment it went down my throat, I knew it was a mistake... It hit my tummy and felt like a rock. I couldn't eat anything else for hours, but it stayed down. Sorry that you had such an experience. I swear, sometimes I completely forget that I had WLS. But quickly remember ;)

I'm there with you too...for me it seems to be the most difficult challenge. I've even thought about putting up little reminder notes that say...CHEW, CHEW, CHEW. I have to remind my self before every meal to eat s l o w l y.

Becca, Yes, I am with you. Matter of fact it has happened too me too many times. I eat too fast and its usually when I am in a rush and I grab something and bite into it and as soon as I swallow I get that feeling. There has been maybe one time that I have been able to keep it down but normally I end up bringing it back up. After that, I usually skip a meal or drink soft/liquid foods for the rest of the day. But, this is one of my newest biggest problems that I am having: Remembering to CHEW, CHEW, CHEW!!! JaNae

Happen to me AGAIN yesterday. I can remember to take tiny teeny bites. I was talking and didn't chew until the cows come home. As soon as you swallow you know you are in for it. I have never understood this. It right there below your neck line. It gets no where near your pouch. Do they tighten up this area also????? Does it shrink? When I do this it always come back up and I don't feel good for a long time. I hate to think I am going to have to eat alone for the rest of my life to keep from swallowing too fast.

I have been really lucky so far with the throwing up thing... I am really careful to chew & times when I know I am in a rush, like getting ready for work, I mix a protein shake and drink it in the car! I have been sick after eating semi-spicy food, though... I guess I will have to wait a little while on that! (Surgery - 12/28)

Girl you are not alone. Last weekend. I was shopping at Sam's and they always have the free samples well without thinking I popped in a meatball with bbq sause and thought I had chewed enough. Not good. It come back up before I left Sams and It was that way all day. I finally took some meds for nause and went to bed. I was fine the next day. I have only had one other episode of throwing up and that was when I didn't chew something enough. After that I chew chew chew. Steph

I've read all the posts, all the paperwork from the surgeon, talked to people, gone to support groups and still when It happens it freaks me out. I ate too fast and egg got stuck, hurt like hell but some warm water helped. Another time it was a potassium capsule, same apin and same remidy. I don't throw up but wished I would. Now I am on solid food and can't believe how little I can eat with out feeling realy over full. My head just dosen't get it. My tummy is very small and yet my mind does not know the facts. I find this a fasinating experience. Sorry you are having such a bad time. Madeline

Hahaha I loved the idea of 'Chew Chew Chew' signs! I guess after a whole life of taking the old sized bites and barely chewing, it will take some time to train ourselves to eat the new way --- of course, with such dramatic reminders, it hopefully won't take tooo long.
