Updates...Progress Reports...
I am 4 wks post-op as of last Tuesday. So far (according to my scale at home) I have misplaced 26 lbs (never to be found again). I having had any complications thusfar. No dumping, probably because I'm a fanatic abou****ching my sugar intake. No nausea/vomiting and can tolerate most foods. The one thing that surpises me is the fact that Crystal Light (lemonade flavor) makes me cramp. I thought it might be the fact that it was real cold or too strong, so I let it get to room temp and watered it down pretty good....cramps still happen. Not sure about trying the other flavors right now...maybe later. I have been forcing myself to get out of the house and walk. I can handle about four hours of shopping, walking the mall, etc and then I'm wiped out for the rest of the day. I need to increase my stamina as I'm due to go back to work in about 10 days. My boss won't be thrilled if I have to take more time off....she wasn't very supportive of my taking time off anyways....oh well.
The other thing that I'm discouraged about is the fact that I still have an open wound that is draining. (I had open resectional RNY...meaning I have no remaining stomach just hanging out inside of me....atleast I dont' have to worry about that "stomach" getting ulcers or cancer...lol). I've looked at previous postings on the main message board and have seen that some people have dealt with the draining for several months. I'm not happy about that possibility. Not sure how much longer my skin can handle the tape (yes, I'm switching the type of tape/how I tape/ on a very regular basis).
I have very good days in which I get more than enough protein and fluids. Then on other days I'm thrilled if I get in half of what my surgeon wants me to have. I'm trying to figure out ways to get in most everything once I get back to work since I don't work at a desk. I am a pediatric recovery room nurse and scheduled breaks are considered a foreign concept on most days. I do work with some very supportive/caring nurses, so I'm sure they will make a point to let me take breaks.
Wow moments: I can comfortably shave my legs (yeah, this is a thrill...NOT), comfortably cross my legs, have found that I actually do have ankles, knees and various other bones, and (although I haven't officially dropped clothing sizes) can put my jeans on standing up and then put my shoes off (without fear of passing out...lol)
Continuous blessings, hugs, love to everyone.
Hi JaNae- I am 5 weeks out and since surg have lost 30....and 17 pre-op, so down a total of 47 since Oct 1. I am down a couple dress sizes, but I can still 'shop' in the my closet as I have these sizes from before. It will be really exciting when nothing I already own fits!!
Not much new to add that hasn't been said...CHEW, CHEW, CHEW! etc. Take care everyone and keep up the good work. Jody
Well I am five weeks out now and I am down 36lbs. I am so pleased with my results so far. I go back to see my Dr on 2/7 I am hoping to drop at least 4 - 5lbs more by then, but will be happy with more if it comes I am eating mostly protein, meat, cheese and eggs, and I have protein shakes as well. For some reason I don't think I am eating enough, but I hope to drop between 50 - 60 by my two month on 2-21.
