Incisions not healing

Hi everyone...I had my surgery on 12-19-05 and as far as the lap RNY goes I'm feeling great and having no problem following the new diet. However, to of my incisions will not heal...I have been back to the hospital 2 times now to have the incisions cleaned and the doctor has it packed, while a nurse has been coming to my home daily to clean and repack the wounds. They hurt and even though physically, this is the worst of it...emotionally, I feel like I'm barely holding on. Just looking at these wounds makes me want to cry and my energy level is still zapped from this pain. Has anyone had anything similar? I'm just curious how long this might take to resolve itself. I do think that my doctor is doing what he can to insure these wounds heal well. Thanks for any comments and suggestions. Maria

Maria - if the incisions are open and have to be packed they will have to fill in from the bottom up and will take much longer to heal. If you are diabetic it will take even longer. Keep them clean and make sure you get your protein and vitamins is and they will heal - you just have to be patient. Your first sentance says it all - keep up the good work!

Thanks for your encouraging words, Susan. The nurse that has been coming to change the packing had finally explained this to me, so I'm glad to hear the same from another source. I'm keeping my head up the best that I can.

How are you doing with the incision healing? Sunny

Thanks for asking...one of them is no longer being packed, so on the right path to recovery. The other is still oozing a bit and needs to be packed daily. As a result, still quite a bit of pain. Though my surgeon says it looks much better and shouldn't be long before we can stop the packing on this one as well.

I'm glad you're doing better. It sounds like a slow and painful recovery. Keep up the good work. You're getting there! Sunny

One of my incisions did not close as well. My doctor didn't want to pack it because there was little fluid coming out of it. So i had runny yellow stuff oozing out of it for about a week. Now it's crusted and I assume it's forming some kind of scab, but you can still see that it goes deep. My best wishes to you and I hope you get to feeling better. Hang in there. Carol G. in Augusta
