Constapation.....
Hey family how is everyone doing this fine Sunday morning. I know this is a question that has been asked several times, but here it goes again. I am only a week and a half out. I tried to go this morning and I could not. I am not sure what to do. I have taken a stool softener, and I am waiting to see if it works. I do not see my surgeon until Tuesday, can anyone offer some advise??
Melissa
While I was in the hospital they gave me a stool softener with a bunch of other pills. So it wasn't liquid or suppository - just a pill. I've not regained a daily regularity but I'm not really consuming any solids - so I don't expect much activity yet. We just have to be sure to get all our fluids in.
I've not been able to do my walking because of the anemia but we're going to the gym this a.m. and will try the treadmill - wish me luck.
Hey Melissa,
I too was concerned about my constapation. I called my surgeons office and they advised against milk of magnesia this soon. It tends to be a little rough on the intestines. They reccomended cup of warm herbal/decaf tea and it actually did the trick. Just remember, there is litte going in so there is even less to come out. Good Luck!!!!
I'm having the same problem folks. I suffered from IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) pre-op where I moved my bowels nearly every time I emptyed my bladder. But I was put on Metamucil (oarnge flavor sugar-free smooth texture) which helped me to have just one BM a day. Well the nurse in my Dr's office said I could use that to help with my constipation (I've been taking stool softeners with no success).WRONG!!! Each time I tried to drink the stuff, I vomitted BIG TIME!!!!!!!!!! So what ever you do...Do not take Metamucil based on my experience. And I will definitely try the M.O.M. chews.
