What the heck is going on?
Ladies,
I read on the Main Messageboard that it's normal to stall after the first 3 weeks and then after 7 weeks.
Saying that, I too have fallen into the scale watching trap. I gained one pound last week. And then I freaked! The scale dropped 3lbs today. I'm going to continue to work out on my equipment and stay away from the scale.
For the past few days, I've had the desire to from smells, water and food. As a result, my food and liquid intake is screwed up.
My angel from my support group suggested I purchase some mint or raspberry tea. She said it helped her alot during her first month post-op.
Tomorrow, I'm supposed to to soft foods and am a little scared.
Chauncine "Just say no to obsessing over the scale!"
The same thing happened to me. Tomorrow will be 3 weeks post op and I lost aroundt 30 lbs in the first two weeks and then gained 2 back this past week. I am now obsessed with weighing myself. I feel like I am not going to lose anymore weight. I am waiting to see those pounds drop and more. I think because we went through a major surgery to do this and inflicted pain upon ourselves we are expecting immediate results. We will all lose weight, it is just a matter of time. Everyone is different and we will all end up losing about the same in the long run but not the same amount each week or month.

Meagan,
I, too, would weigh myself three times a day when I first got home. I had this unrealistic expectation that the fat and pounds would just "melt" right off. It wasn't until after the first week and a half that I realized I'm not losing three pounds a day...and my weight is going to fluctuate during the day based off what I eat, how I exercise, how much water I drink, etc.
Today, I weigh myself once a day (right after my shower, makeup, and hair****ep a log of my weight and have found that I can lose almost a full pound a day if I get in my full 45 minutes of exercise. On the days I don't go to the gym, I won't lose but maybe 1/4 of a pound (my scale shows up to the hundredths of pounds).
There seem to be a few three-day stretches where I didn't lose any weight, but then somehow I lose two pounds in one day--it's odd.
Don't let the scale frustrate you! As long as you're eating the right things (and none of the wrong things) + exercises properly + drinking the required amount of water, you'll do great!
Tomorrow is my 5-week anniversary and I've lost 40 pounds since I started (hooray!), and I'm ok if the scale says the same thing tomorrow because I know I'm doing the right things!
Regards,
Charity
thats easy for you to say. i am 6 weeks tomorrow and have lost 16 pounds. have followed to the t, and am exercising 45 minutes a day on the treadmill. i am doing everything right. i talk to the dietician every other day and she checks my food diary. and cant figure it out. she says eat more protein, then 4 days later, no, thats too much. the doctor is baffled. and i am fed up. and guess what, i have to get onthe scale every day. it has been no loss since december 20th, and i weigh 250.
