Ok, I just got back from Michigan and spent NYE with a good friend who had surg the end of July...she says her doc NEVER told her she couldn't use straws. I feel bad for her because I was well informed NO straws forever. I don't want her to have any problems long run. Is there anyone out there who WAS NOT told to discontinue straw use???? Should I press her to talk to her doc again, or let it go? I know all programs are different, but I thought this was a standard instruction for WLS. Her best interest is at heart. Please let me know anything helpful. Thanks.

My sister had the surgery 3 years ago and she was told to only use straws when drinking. My Doc said NEVER NEVER NEVER use straws.. so I think that it is just the Doc.. Hope this helps... (((HUGS))) Dori V ..... 286.5/ 261.5 -25, 2.5 weeks

I guess its the doctors. One surgeon that I went through before did say no straws. But my current nutritionist has no restriction for straw use. Actually they say that straws may help with sipping and I have found that it has helped me to slow down so that I can sip my water. My sister who had surgery a year uses straws all the time. I would have your friend check with her doctor again to find out theie restrictions on the use of straws. JaNae

My paperwork says I can use straws just to be careful not to injest too much air when drinking.
