Updates...Progress Reports...
Hi
Okay, its now time for updates and progress reports. Some of us have been post-ops for 5, 4, 3, etc. weeks now. Tell us what is going on with you. Give us some updates. Any tips or pointers that you can give us that you are learning as you go along. Tell us what your diet is like. This may help some of the new post-ops as well as encourage others that may be struggling on this journey. This is a learning experience as you may all have gotten to learn. Lets hear it....
As far as me:
I am now on my 3rd week. Back to work. Still on pureed diet (applesause, soup, mashed potatoes, scrambled egss, cheese). I am having issues with vomitting after I eat if I drink to soon, learning to sip, sip, sip. I can not drink cold water or it will upset my stomach. Working hard in getting my protein and vitamins in on a daily basis. Had my 10 day follow-up appointment and am down 24 lbs. Overall, I am still happy with my decision and am looking forward to better days ahead.

JaNae,
Hey sweetie good to hear that you are doing so well.
Update: Officially one week and one day post op. I had a lot of gas pains to start with, then I have the burning, pulling thing going on. Called my doc and the nurse said it was normal. Other than that physically I an doing OK. I have been doing some walking, not as much as I should.
I just started on the pureed food thing. I had low-fat cottage cheese last night, one scrambled egg with cheese this morning, and for lunch I am eating low-fat cottage cheese again.
I have my follow up appt next Tuesday, and will let you know how I am doing.

I have my 4-week check-up tomorrow and I'm anxious to know how much I've lost. At 17 days post-op I was down 27 lbs.
I'm doing well with eating..(slipped up once, but I'm back on track). I can't really tolerate cold fluids either.
I have a problem with eating too fast, but I'm working on that. That's where most of my gas comes from.
I'll update on weightloss tomorrow.
I just wanted to say that WLS is a beautiful thing, do not take it for granted because we all know the weight will come off regardless of what we do...MAXIMIZE THE RESULTS AND MAINTAIN. (my personal motto for 2006)
Blessings,
Neci
I will be two weeks post-op tomorrow. At my two week check-up my doctor told me to try anything I wanted except for tough meats and to take my time trying new things to see how I do. I have healed well from surgery. I did develop a rash from the adhesive used to close up my incisions. That's been very itchy!!!! Other than the rash I had an uneventful recovery. I pray it will stay that way!!!!!!!
Praise God,
Tammy
Hello,
I had my surgery 12/20/05. Everything went very well. I am back at work as of today and started pureed food yesterday. So far so good. I tried refried beans tonight. Not going to do it again real soon, lots of gas pains but they did taste good. As of my appointment yesterday I am down 33 pounds from starting my clear liquid diet 2 wks prior to surgery. Fluids are difficult for me 1st thing in the morning. Glad to hear everyone is doing so well. This is an amazing journey!

Hey JaNae and everyone...
I'm new to the board, had my surgery on the 12th of December, pounds came off quickly at first, but seems now it has slowed. I believe I am due for my period soon and I am retaining water. VERY frustrating... Over the past couple of days it seems as though I will not lose anymore weight and although I know I will, I am kinda still scared.
I have been eating pureed food since 16 days post-op and doing very well with it. I actually do not feel as nautious since I can eat and do not feel deprived at all. I am mostly eating:
1 - canned vegetarian fat-free refried beans
2 - 1/2 egg (egg beaters) with shredded cheese
3 - smooshed lentil bean soup
4 - Banana smoothie: Ice, water, 2 tablespoons of lactaid fat-free milk, 1 medium banana, 1 drop of pure vanilla extract, almost 1 scoop of Designer Whey strawberry protein powder
The dietician gave me some paperwork to follow as to what I can eat and stated that baby food is best, but guess what, baby food has tons of sugar added to it....I could not believe it until I saw for myself. When I go shopping this weekend I will buy the ingredients to make guacamole and going to search for some good pureed recipes online.
Does anyone have recipe ideas for good protein filled pureed food? I am a vegetarian so I need to stick to legumes and dairy mostly. Someone also mentioned that I should check out the Indian store in town. A large staple in their diet seems to be legumes/beans so I may try that.
Hi Shannon,
Welcome to the board! Looks as if you are doing good. I am sure that your weightloss will pick right back up.
Here are 2 recipes that my nutritionist gave to me for the pureed stage, hope this helps:
Soybean Puree
1 cup dry soybeans
3 cups water
1/4 cup unsalted tomato juice for thinning
Rinse and soak the soybeans overnight in the refrigerator. Simmer beans in 3 cups water for about 2 hours. Puree with food processor or blender, adding tomato juice to thin. Makes 12 food cubes
Pureed Legumes
1 cup any legume (black beans, kidney beans, garbanzo beans, navy beans, pinto beans, black eye beans, lentils, etc...)
3 cups water
¾ cup nonfat milk
Rinse 1 cup of any legume. Soak in water overnight or bring to a boil for 2 minutes, cover, and then allow to sit for 2 hours. Drain off the soaking water or cooking water, then add 3 cups fresh water and bring beans to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, covered, until beans are tender (30 minutes-2 hours depending on the legume). Skim the surface often as beans are simmering. Puree with ¾ cup nonfat milk. Freeze in ice cube trays.
Tips:
§ Be creative. Try pureeing different meats and vegetables.
§ Add flavor by using liquids other than water.
§ Try adding herbs and spices.
