3 weeks post op and barely losing weight
Has anyone else had an issue with initial weight loss? I am 3 weeks post op today and to date I have lost 14 lbs, which doesn't sound so bad, but 11 of those lbs came off the first week. Week 2 I lost 1 lb and then this past week 2 lbs. I keep thinking I am doing something wrong but I am getting at least 64 oz of liquid of a day and an avg of 60-70 grams of protein a day. I haven't been able to do much exercise except for walking. I just thought the first month it would come off quickly. It doesn't seem to be happening for me. Any help would be appreciated!
Do not get discouraged. Continue to do what you have been doing. I am only 3 weeks post-op as well and have only lost 14 1/2 pounds since the surgery and I felt the same way but I am here to tell you, to just hold your head and keep up the good work. You are doing well and don't get discouraged. God Bless you

Deb,
I had my surgery on 12/5 and have had the same feelings that you had. I question my scale and my hubby daily on why am I not losing the same way that so many others do during the first month post op. I spoke with a very kind woman from Obesity Help who gave me some good words of advice..including..NOT everyone is the same. I too am following the regime...often not taking in enough daily protein..which is not uncommon for us newbies...I take all my vitamins, drink water and crystal light and walk daily...not alot..but something. I also have three young step children that I have to care for as well...I have been told that sometimes its better to lose it slowely and rememeber....the weight wasnt gained overnight..so we shouldnt expect it to fall off overnight either.
Keep up the good work and dont lose perspective.
Hugs,
Lisa

I am a week behind you. I did very well the first week and began to slow. Suddenly as the ache across my low back was beginning to alarm me (thinking some major pain morph from my surgery was about to erupt) I glanced at a calendar. Ha ha ha, did I suddenly forget I am a female with normal cycles? I gain a bit every month in this week. This month, no gain IS success.

I am 3 weeks post op today, and I had been feeling rather discouraged by my slow weight loss. The nutritionist and the surgeon say that I am doing fine. I just expected it to go faster like so many others I have seen. I get in my 75 grams of protein and 64 ounces of water almost every day. I decided one day that I was going to slack off until they "make" me start getting it in at 6 weeks, but then my husband makes jokes about me going bald, and I abandon my hunger strike. I don't want to loose my hair.
At my two week followup, which was 16 days post op, I had lost 12 pounds. I haven't weighed since Friday, and I was at 14 pounds lost. I am a slave to the scale. I have decided to hold out to weigh again until Wednesday. We shall see. My DH tries to encourage me by saying my body will eventually realize that fighting the loss is futile and will get with the program. I am discouraged by the fact that I lost 24 pounds in 12 days on the preop diet, which is alot better than I am doing now. The nutritionist said women usually loose and average of half a pound a day while men loose and average of one pound a day, so I told myself that I will not get crazy about the slow loss unless I reach a point were I no longer average half a pound a day. Wednesday I will be 23 days out, so as long as the scales show a loss of 12.5 pounds, all will be well. I had lost 14 this past Friday, so I know it will be more than that on Wednesday, so no worries, right?
